Leveling with Bilstein 5100s

I'm gonig to get BFGs on my truck this fall and need some advice, I'm gonna get the Bilstein adjustable struts to level my truck out in front, It looks like the price has really risen up on these things, but can somebody verify that this is the part I will need? Is this what everyone buys?

And should I get the rear shocks also? what will that do just make a stiffer suspension? It wont lift it any right? Thanks. And can anyone suggest where I could get the front struts cheaper? And is that all I would need to get to level it out?

Not familar with the part numbers, but they are all you need to level your truck. Also, the rear Bilstiens would be a great upgrade. And, they don't lift the rear.

Thanks Wandell. So what are the rear shocks for exactly? prevent the rear from sagging back any? Theres not a thing wrong with my factory ones yet so i'm wondering if I should invest into them.

The rear shocks will have matched Valving to the fronts! They are merely and upgraded shock from stock... does nothing for height. Without them your rear would not match the front! Buts the only preferance!

I bought the set and have been very impressed with the them! I would recommend a complete set!

This is where I ordered the set of 4 (2 front struts and 2 rear shocks) The price is not bad and the shipping time is pretty fast too!

Hope this info helps!

I have read sites that the rear shocks lift the back 0 to 1 inch!

Thank you for the link Nemisus! Pretty pricey but I understand it is a major bolt on modification, and that it will be worth it. That all around kit for $370 dont sound that bad though, better together than individually! Well I guess soon I will be buying them, and my friend and I will install it. I'll need a front end re-allignment for the struts right?

The rear shocks don't support any weight, the leaf springs do.

It doesn't lift the rear but is designed to work for 0-1" of lift in the rear

I just installed the Bilstein 5100's (I ordered from Topgunz and, for US buyers I think Topgunz is the best deal, but n.b. Canadians: I think you can get these from Summit Racing, they ship USPS so there's no customs brokerage fee. Topgunz ships UPS, which allows Canada Customs to ding you $75 in fees.)

You can easily install the rear shocks yourself but I let an alignment shop install the fronts. Took them 2-hours. Ford quotes 1.5

Really happy with the results. Ride is a little stiffer but not harsh.

Check my profile for before/ after pictures.

Thanks for the info Kevin. My bud & I will install the rears and i'll see how much the dealer wants for the fronts.

Should be 1.5 hours from Ford (that's the book time)... my alignment shop charged me two hours, although it took three.

DarrenWS6 08-18-2008 02:07 AM

So what does that cost, $80 some?

KevinCowtown 08-18-2008 10:34 AM

$80?

Good God no. I live in Cananada... the socialist paradise.

A dozen Budweiser... $22. Pack of smokes... $10. Tax freedom day... June 20.

Ford wanted 1.5 hours at... $140/Hr ($210) plus $119 for a wheel alignment. The alignment shop charged me 2 hours at $100 per hour plus $109 for a wheel alignmnent.
