Finally found the look...how to best achieve this with an '03 Screw Fx4

I've been wanting a lift that will accommodate 37s (mud grapps) and still have a nice gap in the well between tire and fender (I don't want too much tire and little gap or too much gap and little tire). Unfortunately most lift kits for my '03 FX4 Screw is 6". 37's will take up too much of the wheel well.

In searching the forums I found this pic (it's exactly the look I was going for). It's an 8" lift with 37 mud grapps (with a perfect gap). https://www.f150online.com/forums/2342082-post6.html

What's the best way for me to achieve this look? 6" fabtech with body lift? Is a 6+3 too much for 37s? Or 6" + spacers?

Sorry if this is trivial. I'm a newbie to lifting.

Thanks!!!

* Finally found the exact look I've been searching for...unfortunately they don't make 8" lifts for my '03

the best way to clear 37's on the 97-03 F150 4x4 is with a 6" Fabtech Suspension Lift and a 3" Body Lift.

That is really the only way to get what you are asking for.

You could get the 6" Fabtech crank your torsion bars all the way up that will give you around 8" of lift.

Then see what the 37's drive like with that setup.

If you dont like it then spend the $200 and install a 3" Body lift.

People are gonna tell you that its impossible but ive got 36's on a 3" Body Lift with my T-bars cranked and i only rub the frame at full lock.

yeah thats the look but he only wants 37's and he thinks there will be too much gap.

IMO 6+3 with a 37x13.5 or 14.5 will look good. Remeber the difference between a 38 and 37 is only a half inch on each side of the tire. Noticeable? I dont think so. Just get a slightly wider tire!

Yep I think you got my thinking on that one. I also think a 6+3 is the way to go but didn't want to have to go 38s. I didn't know if 37s were too small. Earlier I thought maybe wider tires will make it look more proportional.

For some reason the truck that Cashel did (in the link that MudTerrain posted) seems a lot bigger (i.e. taller) than the link I sent. Then again the one I sent is an inch shorter with lift and an inch overall shorter with tire. To me the white F150 had the perfect look that I was personally going for (don't get me wrong, I think Cashel's truck looks oh so sweet. It just seems slighty bigger than I think I want. An 8" lift with 37's would be perfect for me).

Damnit for not having an 8" suspension lift for us slighter older f150s

well with the 6" and t-bars cranked you are like 7.5-8"

Or you could do a 2" body lift instead of 3"

But 37's and 9" looks good

Or here's another potential thought. I remember seeing a pic somewhere on here with a 6" fabtech lift, 2.5 level kit, and 36x15.50 claws. It looked pretty good.

The level kit only adjusts the front correct? I can live that look! I don't intend to go heavy offroading and will occasionally pull a boat or toy hauler.

Any disadantages to that particular type of setup (6" + 2.5 level kit)? Does that mean it's 8.5" of lift?

Let's see if I can find those pics

Edit: Ahh here it is http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2230542

Do they make a 2" body lift? I couldn't seem to find one for the '03?

When i mentioned cranking your torsion bars that is leveling the front end. they do no level the same as the 04+ different suspension setup.

I dont see why they wouldnt sell the 2" BL... but they might not.

also heres a picture of a RCD 5.5" and 3" Body Lift and 37x13.5's

Thanks for the pic for reference. OK to me...that's too much tire and not enough lift (i.e. gap between tire and fender). In the link I sent, I think they have the perfect gap and the look I'm trying to achieve. The link to the car domain I sent has roughly the same size lift as the pic you attached, however with 36s and seems to look more proportional (and meaner). That grey truck looks sexy! Maybe it just has to do with the offset and the fact the tires are 1" smaller.

Thoughts? Opinions?

its really hard to compare our trucks to 04+

another thing is the wheels. The truck i posted is only on 16's or 17's

the truck you posted is on 20's

the tire will look smaller when put on big wheels. and will "balloon" less.

but tires on big wheels will also give up offroad traction!

Imagine my truck with 3 more inches of lift wider whels.
i think the 6" Fabtech with torsion bars cranked and 36's would look real good. actually it might be that perfect combo but nobody has done it yet. Maybe try that.

You rock! Thanks for all the help and taking the time. The last (3) is the look I'm going after! Thanks for finding those pics. The last pic has a great height...although I would like to go wider tires than 12.5
