Truck Sexchange 2WD to 4WD

I am just curious as to what it would take to convert a 2WD 08 F150 to a 4WD. And please, no, “trade your truck in on a 4WD hyuk! hyuk!” comments.

I’m not going to make any outlandish claims of wanting to do this, its more just curiosity. I mean, if it’s not overly difficult, I would consider it but I was sitting here wondering if it has ever been done or if you guys knew the parts that would be needed to make the operation a success? I think it would be a cool project to undertake.

Being as 4WD was not a viable option for me when I bought mine and I do actually want a 4WD I might consider taking this on since I am tied into my truck for atleast 5 years.

If you are going to spend the money, go custom and do a straight axle swap.

Otherwise, not worth it.

Keep in mind its not just suspension, but a lot to do with drivetrain replacement as well.

Yeah that is what I just read in that other thread. I figured the t-case, axles, read diff, front spindles, and some other minor parts but aparantly there is more than meets the eye to a 4WD. Not to mention the electrical. I am going to call the dealer where I got my truck in April and see what the odds are on a 4.6L 4WD reg cab. That way all my stuff I bought can be moved to the new truck. If they have it in Black I will take that as a sign to trade up. well, trade sideways. lol 08 for an 08.

Well, I have grown fond of....dare I say .. the "NOS" sticker at the local Rice-aholics meeting at the local grocery store parking lot. Oooh no, maybe the VTEC decal?

I do intend to lift no matter which way I go. I don't anticipate being able to trade in but if I don't try I will never know.

its more then suspension, its frame horns, crossmembers, Tcase, 2 Dshafts, floor shifter/linkage (or elec equivalent) PCM tuning for any traction control systems they have, etc

as its been said its much more cost effective to go custom, or to trade
