Dumb question about Bilstein 5100's.....

Okay, so my mechanic is installing them on my truck today, while I'm at work.

Now, just taking a quick glance at them, I see where the outer body of the shock, has the grooves where the ring clips around it (reminds me of rings in a motor piston) and depending on which ring you put the clip in, this determines whether you get 0" lift, 1" lift, or 2" lift.... Correct so far ?

Okay, so then the spring seat sits on top of this ring, and the coil spring sits against the spring seat, right ?

Well my dumb question is, doesn't the entire weight of the truck (or that corner of it, anyway) bare down on the spring, and seat ? Sure seems like a TON of weight to be baring on that one little clip ring ?
I mean, I know they are Bilsteins, and I have not heard of any of these setups failing, but if I'm understanding how these things work, it sure seems shaky to me.

Hmmm. What the deal here ?

Thanks,
Fish

I have not seen them, but many here have had them without issues so it must be a reliable system. I am sure the spring seat overlaps the spring clip trapping it in the groove.

Hey Scott....

that would make all the sense in the world.

Thanks,

I hear you, it looks and seems weird but it's fine. Trust me, I tested it out to make sure it was safe !! ;)
