Torsion Bar Crank: Can anybody point me to a "how to" on cranking my torsion bars.
 
Whats up fellas. so i need to know how to crank my torsion bars. a how to page would help alot. thanks guys.

do a search. its been covered many times.

find the rear of the torsion bar. find the bolt going to the torsion bar. i think its 12mm. get a socket handle and a breaker bar. turn bolt to the right.

start out with 2 turns and go from there.

Right. Be sure to crank each bolt an equal number of turns. I also think the bolt is an 18mm.

i want to do this too. i was underneath taking off my running boards and located the bolt on each side. should i spray them overnight or something? what is a recommended amount of turns to level out the front, but not cranking it too high where it will cause problems?

sorry about that angle only picture of my truck where u can see the front wheel well. and im about to post the AFTER. and i think i still may need to do about maybe an inch or two more.

Every truck seems to come from the factory with a different amount of preload. So there is no set number of turns it will take to level a truck.

any afters yet? i just got a set of used 285 bfg a/t's from a friends tire shop with about 50% tread left for 35 a tire so i thought id just wear em out, and would liek to know what mine would look liek with and without t-bar crank. thanks

and wandell-a 285 is basically a 33 correct?

alright guys, i cranked mine up all the way to the frame...and i was just wondering how it really worked, i mean it did but what did it exactly do? and why is it so important to get it aligned right away? j/w....any cheap ways 2 do the rear suspension to so i can get some 33's under there just fine? i have a 1997 f150 xlt supercab.....

Tightening the torsion bar keys, puts more preload on the torsion bars. This is how the truck gets its spring in the front. The more you crank them the more preload thus the stiffer the ride will get, including the height of the front end.

It is important to get realigned after messing with your torsion bar adjustment keys. Its not something you will have to do that day but it will be done. I didnt do it on my stock tires just to see what kinda damage it does and it will feather the crap out of a tire if you dont get an alignent. however i drove it that way for about 4 months and alot of miles. When I put my BFG's on it I had it aligned all at the same day.
