Why some say 2" and some say 2.5" leveling kit?
 

I have been reading and there are a lot of people claiming each size gets the truck level. Are they all that different?

I have a 05 FX4 Crew and just measured mine and its about a 2" difference. Now I was planning on buying the 2.5 AS until I actually measured. Will I get the full 2" or is it actually more or less?

AS on ebay say 2.5" for a dead level truck and the 2" for if you tow or haul. Well I do neither so which is the best for me and this year truck?

every truck is different. if yours measures 2" go with that

That is correct, every truck is different. I had a 3" difference in front vs. back and the 2.5" got me a 3" increase in the front. Leveled mine perfectly. However, FX4, FX2, reg cab, screw, scab, all that makes a difference. I agree with the post above, go with the 2". Be sure to get it aligned afterwards to get an accurate reading on the increase.

I called one place and if it takes 1.5 hrs to install plus the alignment were talking about $170.

I would have to buy all the tools needed to do this or borrow pieces from friends. Am I better off paying to have this done?

Anyone in the Oswego NY area that could help?

Well I measured again and got 2 3/8 will measure again tomorrow

Some say the late 2006's and up have 1/2 inch less rake than earlier models... I'd go with the 2" regardless though.

even if it is slightly more then 2" higher in the rear, i would still go with a 2" lift because if you decide to load the rear up or tow a trailer with a heavy tongue (sp?) weight, you wont notice the rear sag

also, no one has yet mentioned that the 2'' will put less strain on the front end suspension, as opposed to the 2.5''.

I put the 2.5 on mine and honestly, I see the only strain is when the front suspension is in full drop. As long as you don't go airborne very often, you should be fine. My balljoints are not as severe an angle as I expected. I don't have the CV axles (I have a 2WD) so this may be a different issue for you 4WD folks.

Well measured again with the truck in the garage and made sure all tires had 35psi.

As with the measurements outside from the ground to bottom of molding the sides were not the same like the truck sits a little off. I even went from the top of the tire up and came up with different numbers from the left and right side.

The one side now is showing close to 3" and the other 2.5".

So now I'm leaning towards getting the 2.5".

There a lot of people who have this and say there is no problem with the angle and some say there is a problem. I've read of only one guy taking it into ford for repairs due to having the 2.5 installed. So now what? I really want a level truck and like I said I will NEVER tow and bed is usually empty.

the 2.5'' kit isn't too straining, it's the 3'' kit that people unknowingly put on that really causes the front end susp. to go to sh*t. i was just pointing out another factor, b/c nobody else had.

i bought the 2.5" for my 2005 f150 and the install is very simple just make sure you have torque wrench. Took my truck to the local shop for alignment and they had to put a special guy who has done lifted trucks before so needless to say it costs a lil bit more and still doesnt drive right. I think i might go for the 2" kit and redo it.

Well I was in this same situation and decided to go with the 2" AS. I am glad that I did. Here is a before and after pic.
