Are there Bilstein's for a 4x4 with 4" lift?

I'm getting the Rancho 4" lift from Summit Racing, and I am being told that I can't get the 5100's for the front of a 4x4. Is there another model I can go with?

If not, I guess I'll go with Rancho's unless theres something better.

The RCD lift comes with Bilstiens. It's adjustable from 4.5 to 6 inches of lift by changing the preload ring on the Bilstiens. I would think those would work with the Rancho lift.

yeah, thats what I was thinking. So I called Bilstein and was told that the only shocks they had for my truck was for a 2" lift, nothing else. So I either need to find the part # for the ones used in the RCD or get Ranchos.

Nice find

Off topic: Does zinc plating help prevent rust at all....anybody know?

EDIT: I guess not :(

"Zinc plated coatings are not suitable for exterior exposure applications. Zinc plated bolts and hardware fittings such as gate hinges will not provide adequate protection from corrosion, and will rarely last more than 12 months in exterior exposures in most urban coastal environments.

Zinc plating has been used in industrial coating applications from time to time, with very poor results."

yeah, I just need to find a part number, since according to Bilstein, those adjustable ones don't exist. All the sites I find them on just say 5100 series. :(

I guess I could order the shocks from a different site, would just prefer to get all my stuff from one place.

Any reason why you'd not want to order from them? Top Gun Customz is a reputable company and you'll be hard pressed to find a cheaper price. That's what my plan was gonna be; order the Rancho kit from Summit and the Bilstein shocks from customz but have recently changed my plans

Shocks don't come with the Rancho kit anyways, correct?? Which tells me that the stock coil over is re-used if so desired, so there must be just some type of spacer in there somewhere. This then further tells me that you could use any "stock/no-lift shock you wanted.

Remember this...the Bilstein shock BE5-C298-HO is not for lift kits up to 2". This shock gives you up to 2" of lift. More specifically, one or two, not necessairily one to two like it says...but that's splitting hairs. The way I also understand it is this is the only 5100 Bilstein makes for this truck, but I could be mistaken on that one. They don't list anything else on the web site.

I wish that link you provided for the shocks for the lift kits had some type of part number associated with them.

Also, from what I gather looking at it from the surface, the Rancho and RCD kits are both just 4" lift kits. The RCD claims 4.5-6" of lift due only to the adjustability of the Bilstein shocks that come with their kits. Theoretically, the Bilstein shock installed on a Rancho kit would net you the exact same thing. Personally, I like the looks of the Rancho better than the RCD because the subframe assembly is one piece. The RCD is two. Seems the Rancho would have a more solid platform, but there's no denying RCD's reputation!!

No, you need a shock designed for a 4" lift.....they are longer. You can't reuse the stock shocks. You do reuse the stock coil SPRING, but not the shock...you need a longer one (it sticks out further on the bottom end).

However, I believe you are correct that the RCD kit with the Bilstein shocks gets the extra 2" of lift if desired by using the "leveling" type shocks for the extra lift, causing more strenuous angles on your suspension components just like a leveling kit does.

nvm :(

HEY!! You know something...I'm confused here. I think we all are assuming (or at least I did) for what ever reason you have a '04 or newer truck. Is this true or not??

The shock numbers you listed are for a 97-03 truck, even though is says 97 and on!!
