Ball joint questions.
I've got an 04 F150 with 90,000 miles on it. It's time to change my ball joints, and I can't find any moog replacement ball joints. Advanced Auto Parts, says that there is no aftermarket parts available yet, and my online searches are only giving me 97-04 choices which I assume is the old body style 04.
Has anyone changed theirs? and do you have any leads on where I'd get some? I'm looking for the Moog upper control arm, and the lower's. |
I'm just repeating what I've heard on here, but some people say that the Ford Balljoints are the best. I read something about the Moogs leaking.
No experience with em, just what I heard on here. |
you can get a tc upper control arm and im pretty sure it has new balljoints. just cost u a little bit of $
|
TC total chaos arms do not use ball joints.
heres the run down the only way to replace the upper ball joint is with a whole new arm, the lowers everyone should be stocking by now and the go in the same as any other ball joint nothing special just a press tool. I had moog and I felt they were crap the boots riped not 6 months in and then they just let the grease go everywhere. I went back to ford BJs and havnt had a problem |
for the 04+ here you go from advance web site. You have to buy the hole assembly. Man I looked at these awhile back and I thought they were around $80, guess they have went up alittle.

TC arms = teflon lined uni-balls, not ball joints. I would recomend them if you have the money, they are much stronger than the oem UCA's. :smoke:

OMG - those UCA are hot!!! SEX on wheels.
What website to check those out at? |
Yeah, they're definitely sexy but you need wheels with 4.5" backspacing or less to use them. Camburg has some too, but for those you'll need 5" bs or less. Our factory wheels are 5.5" bs. SOL.

Well on my 98, I replaced with Moog, but only because they had the built in grease fitting. I talked to my Ford dealer, and they still don't have grease fittings in them. I've always used grease gun needles and put grease in my OEM joints, but that doesn't always get up into the ball all that great.
Besides some of the other options above,(which are great, but I'm running this truck stock) what other manufacturers has anyone had luck with? |
My truck is stock as well! I really need to change my upper and lower CAs.
I have to go with the dealer part cause ""CANNOT FIND THE MOOG PART RIGHT NOW" $100 for upper and 114 for lower:( |
WTF I just paid 49 at the dealer for lower BJs and 75 for each upper from directfordparts.com

I bought the lower moogs from summit. I sure hope they don't rip out that quick. Only reason i got them was for the grease fittings too. Crap really pisses me off that ford can't install grease fittings.
