4" vs 6" for 35's

Hey guys,

I am looking to put a set of 35's on, havent decided with what tire I'm going to go with yet. I am looking at the Rancho 4", but I see most people on the site have 6" lift with 35's. Is there a specific reason for this, or just a preference thing?

Thanks in advance,
Cory

Edit: goin on a '05 Screw 4x4

im in the same position as you. I am going to lift my truck soon, and was deciding between a 4" and 6" lift. I think the reason most go with a 6" is because in the you end up wanting to go higher in the end, plus with a 6" you wont run into rubbing issues as easily.

well I wouldn't worry so much about the advertised height for these lifts. for the most part, the advertised height isn't the actual height you're getting. just as an example on the '99-'06 Chevy's the rancho kit is in reality about 5 1/4" even though it is advertised as a 4" kit, and the superlift for that same model is advertised as a 6" when in reality it is 5 1/4" also. You should really look at how the individual kits are put together to figure out which one is the best for you. Superlift has a pretty good lift for ur rig...

Just to let you know before you get misinformed, the Rancho kit for the '04 and up F150's is a 4" lift and gives you exactly 4" of lift

If I end up going with the 6", it will most likely be the RCD. Looks like the best setup imo, and seems like the rest of the people on here agree. So there is no real reason to go 6" vs 4" besides bigger = better?

But... from what I understand, with the 4" lift I can run my stock rims, and if I get the 6" I can't because they don't have enough backspacing, is this correct? I really don't want to buy a new set of rims just to throw winters on.

You can run stock wheels with the Rancho lift - that's one of the reasons I got that kit; I run my stockers in winter.

thats what i plan on getting this summer, just because i can run the stockers all year. oem 20's and BFG A/T's, i cant wait and a 4" rancho sounds like the perfect setup

I would go bigger cause your going to kick your self as soon as u get the 4, im pritty sure you can get the 6in pro comp basic kit for 1100, thats cheaper and going to be your best beat. the rancho i heard is really a 5.5in kit when put on.

As long as there is no rubbing issues with the 4, I dont see the need to go bigger. Most of my driving will be city/hwy. I am definitely gonna hit the trails in the summer, but nothing hardcore.

Copen: What winter tire do you run?

ugh... I dont know how you can stand those... First snowfall my truck was like a death trap driving with those things, pretty sure they are the worst tire when it comes to snow Lucky for me the snow melted and its been fine ever since, but I need to find a set of good winters to throw on with the lift. A tire shop in town recommended the BFG km2's and get them siped/studded.
