Finally have my Bilstein 5100's...pics and a question
Looks great. Can't wait to install them. One thing I noticed, my front shocks only have 2 grooves for the snap ring that holds the coil bucket. Seems kind of odd and the distance between the two groves is 1-3/8" Not an inch or two. I'm assuming the highest groove is the one you use so that it levels the truck. Is that right? On the rear shocks...boots facing up or down? Thanks :beers:

I've always seen and done boots up on the rear, can't help you with the front, sorry. nice shocks man, wish I had the scratch to get those :thumbsup:

Its my understanding that with gas shocks it doesn't matter. I mounted mine with the boot down so that the Bilstien label wouldn't be upside down. Seeing the zinc shock in the wheel well looks pretty nice too.:thumbsup:
**EDIT** When I got home from work, I inspected the rear shocks and it's definately boot down. For one, the Bilstein labeling will no be upside down, and the boot has drainholes at the end of the shock. Not where the boot and body meet. |

And remove the shock boot. It will only keep dirt and water in it...
I just snapped a rear 5100, and not sure what will be replacing it. |

Yes... Was on a ledge in Moab, and started to back down. Heard a little scrapping, and thought it was the rear bumper... no problem. Turns out it was the exhaust. Got caught on a rock or something, and got bent into the rear shock... snapping the shock in half. :lol: |
