Leveling kits, 2" vs. 2.5"
Leveling kits, 2" vs. 2.5"
I've noticed some people use a 2" leveling kit, others use a 2.5" kit. Any pros or cons to either one, reasons why I should pick one over the other?
Thanks a bunch

I've got a 2" plus the 1.5" add a leaf.
2" is the best way to go
Actually, the difference between the two is quite significant.
A 2" leveling kit will basically make your truck perfectly level. It will also allow for the installation of 33" tires. Leveling kit runs around $250. Mine was $310 installed plus $900 for tires.
2.5" leveling kits don't look much different in my opinion, but if you get a 2.5" kit then you are required to replace the upper control arms (they are at too great of an angle, or something).
A 2" level with 33s is a great way to lift your truck, especially if you have a 2WD, without paying for a suspension lift or settling for a body lift (no offense to those with body lifts, I just don't care for them). I am really happy with mine. If you need more info ask Wandell he knows everything.

where did you find a 2" leveling kit for the 97-03 2WDs? I can't seem to find em anywhere.
edit: and while I'm here, how do you add that little gallery icon on the upper right of the posts?

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you go to the top of the forum page and click on "user cp". Then "edit profile", then down to gallery # and enter your gallery #.

On the '04 and newer F150's you do not need to replace any factory components with the leveling kit. I have the 2" Autosring on my '06 FX4 and I'm running 33's with no rubbing. Some guys get the 2.5" kit to clear 35's. Personal preferance on tire size will tell you what kit you need. I bought my Autospring kit off Ebay for around $100. Just search around for what the guys here are running.
I have a 2006 F150 with a 2.5" level kit.
Here are my personal opinions:
1)I am very happy with the kit and it does not make the front look higher then the back.
2)Like with any level kit that you use, you are changing the geometry of the upper arms.
Anyone who believes they are safer with a 2" over a 2.5" is shooting their mouth off to feel good about thier purchase (Both kits are practically the same)- Sorry but someone has to say it.
3)Also, you do not need aftermarket arms for a 2.5" kit.
Lastly, I recomend that if you know how to use a jack and hand tools that you install the kit yourself. It is very simple to install and a waste of money to pay someone $100+ to do for you.
Besides all that it I think it is alot of fun to do projects like this yourself. Especially with a case of beer and a few buddies.

Bschld1 - I hope you do not mind me posting them but I think that you have the best before and after side shots that I have seen and a great looking truck so I posted them so others can see it easier than searching the gallery. Please PM me if you want me to remove the pics.
