Procomp vs. Fabtech (again!)
Procomp vs. Fabtech (again!)
Planning on putting a 6" lift on my 07 King Ranch supercrew and am still debating on Procomp vs. Fabtech. I've read the past posts on the topic and it seems like a toss-up.
My real question is: will both lifts clear a 7 ft garage? I know the stage 1 procomp will (6ft10in), but what about if I go with the coil overs instead of the spacers? Does that add any height to the lift? I don't do a ton of off-roading (especially since I moved from AZ to WI), but still want to be able to use the truck if need be and it seems like the coilover is the way to go even though it costs a few extra bucks.
Thanks in advance for the help.

6" lift illegal in Wisconsin!?!?!?! You've got to be kidding! I had no idea, although I had wondered why I hadn't seen many lifted trucks around. That also explains why it's been so hard to find any lift shops/off road shops in the phone book. So, what is the law and how worried should I be about it? I live in Manitowoc (just south of Green Bay). HELP!

Pulled this off of a website:
"Wisconsin law says that vehicles with up to an 8,000-pound GVWR can be pushed 5 inches above the OE height, and the tires can be increased by up to 4 inches in radius over the factory size, equaling an acceptable 9-inch lift."
Translation? Is a 6" lift with 35-inch tires legal or not? I've seen guys running the 4" rancho lift on their F-150's locally but not a single 6" lift.

Unfortunately no. You can only go 5" suspension, and the rest can be body/tires. I have seen a few 6" around here, but I have also heard about some of them getting busted. I'm in Eau Claire area.
What a major bummer. So, now the thread should be titled "Forget Procomp and Fabtech--what about the rancho 4?"
Anybody have any opinions on the rancho 4"? Will I be able to clear 35-inch tires or do I have to stick with 33's? Are there any 5" lifts out there?
Thanks again for all the replies. I can't tell you how bummed I am about this. I have dreamed of my 6" lifted f-150 supercrew for years and now I move to a state that says it's against the law!!

personally i would have gone with the procomp. imo its a lot better on the 06-07 4x4. i have an 06 fx4 screw and i just put on the procomp. i researched it a ton and fabtech did better with the older f150's, just not as good as procomp on these. but since ur states law doesnt permit you to have the lift(i would put it on anyways), rancho's 4" (really a 5-6") is a great one. you can either get black or red. go with the RS9000X. great lift. and you can fit 35's easily. max tire width is 12.5 and the max wheel backspacing is 6. hope this helps you.
Here's one of the guys that's on top of Wisconsin laws -

The issue with getting stopped (from a guy that's been driving lift trucks for 30 years in WI) is rarely the truck - it's the driving!!! I've managed to avoid being stopped because I know how to drive. Even if they get an equipment ticket, the stop (in my experience) is always for how they are driving - and the equipment violations (that I've seen) have always been brought on by the driver's mouth.
I'm about to jump up to 6" lift and 37s - just watch the 30" bumper height.
I would never recommend anyone intentionally bypass the law. And in my area (Washington & Fond du Lac counties) there are a lot of high lifted trucks!
