What's the difference?

What is the difference between a body lift and a suspension lift? Which one is better?

Thanks.

Just as the name implies, a suspension lift lifts the trucks suspension while a body lift lifts the body about the frame a couple (maximum 3) inches.

So a suspension lift actually lifts the axles higher while a body lift just lifts the body up higher? Does a body lift give more clearance?

Both give you clearance for larger tires.

a suspension lift will give you better ground clearance and room for bigger tires

a body lift will give you no extra ground clearance but room for bigger tires

That's a good explanation.

If I'm not mistaken body lifts also stress connecting components like wires and tubes and stuff.

No, all of those issues are addressed in a body lift. Also, the only way you gain ground clearance under your axles is to install taller tires. In other words the differentials on a truck with the OEM tires and wheels is the same as a truck with the OEM tires and a 6 inch suspension lift.

A suspension lift gives you more WHEEL TRAVEL. Both lifts give you the ability to install larger tires.
And as mentioned, the only way to gain extra ground clearance in to install larger tires, or possibly change your axle/differential setup. But that last part is an expensive job.

that is correct if not done properly.

stonegod85 Sep 14, 2006 03:32 PM

can you explain properly?

wandell Sep 14, 2006 03:36 PM

Basically, properly means buying a well designed kit (like the PA kits) and not trying to make one yourself out of hockey pucks, metal pipe or wood.
