2005 Front struts?

I was told by a shop that the 2005 2wd has struts in front, not shocks. Is this correct? He said 2004 had shocks in front but when I look at my friends, it looks the same as mine. Also, Who has the best price on Blistiens?

The 04-06 F-150 4x4 and 4x2's all have IFS with coilover shocks. Coilover shocks are basically a extra heavy duty version of a strut.

so this is why they are so expensive? goodyear told me like 150 per shock for the fronts and my last truck , 2000 f150, they were like 40 bucks each all around.

Exactly. The only aftermarket shocks I know of for stock height 04-06's are Rancho and Bilstien.

I bought Bilstein $280ish (front and rear) from eshock.com and love it.

I installed it myself to save money.

so it does not require an alignment then I am guessing? They just bolt in the front like the older style?

I just tried going to eshock.com and it comes up as some media company?

nope

If you were planning to level kit for it then yes it will need alignment.

No, Its a bit more work and time...what i did remove tire, unbolt top and bottom to remove coilover shock then used tool to compressd spring, then remove it, install new shock in, spring in, uncompress it, put it on, bolt on, tire on thats it.

It took me about an hour and 20 min for front (2) and 20 mins for (2) rears.

You will find more info if you search it in 2004-06 F150 forum.

OK I got to eshocks.com but it only lists for 2004 not 2005. This is the question that still remains with me. I cannot find any site that lists 2005 specifically for the F150 yet they have 05 and 06 for other vehicles.
Goodyear told me 04 had front shocks and 05 has struts, and everything I am finding seems to follow that thinking. Did anyone with a 2005 change the front shocks? even autozone.com only has 2004 shocks and it says 2005 not available yet.

LOL!

They are ALL same, 04-06!

They only changed a bit is brake capilers or something so it doesnt effect to coilover shocks, anyway.

Go to eshocks.com then scroll down and you ll see "04 F150 includding off road package except HD model". thats what you need it for your truck!

Goodyear KNOW NOTHING about "most trucks or cars" but to be SURE to POST your question in 2004-2006 F150 forum i m sure they will post to answer your question about coilovershock and strut but honestly i havent HEARD anything about CHANGE the front suspenions.

Eshocks, it look like their price went up a bit...lucky me !

Simple explanation:

Strut:

Shock:

Mine is the coilover like the first pic. So if I order the 2004 setup it should be the same for the blistiens.

YOMAN, how does the truck ride with the blistiens compared to stock. Is it rougher, firmer, etc? how would you describe em.

Yes 2004 means new body style, 2004 heritage means older body style.

what goodyear is probably thinking is that it is the old body style F150. there is the 04-06 F150 and there is a 04 F150 Heritage which is the same as the 97-03 F150

My truck rides MUCH BETTER than POS factory shocks...its good firmer but not too rough or hard riding, it really good job with all pothole and bumps and also improve body roll (less) on corner. I m happy with it!
GO FOR IT!

That is NOT a strut.

STRUTS are NOT the same thing as COILOVER SHOCKS.

strut:

A strut takes the place of the upper control arm, and integrates the spring into it. Coilovers still use an upper and lower control arm.

Here's a halfway decent write-up with some pictures:
http://www.procarcare.com/icarumba/r...eer1.asp#types

To answer the original question, from the '05 service manual:
SECTION 204-01A: Front Suspension — 4x2 2005 F-150 Workshop Manual
DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION Procedure revision date: 08/02/2004

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Front Suspension Printable View (9 KB)

CAUTION: Do not lubricate the stabilizer bar bushings for any reason.

The suspension system consists of the following components:

Front suspension
upper control arm
lower control arm
shock absorber and spring assembly
stabilizer bar, links, and bushings
wheel bearing, hub, and knuckle
wheel and tire assembly
The front caster, camber and splits are adjusted by loosening the lower control arm-to-frame mounting bolts and installing the alignment kit to allow the arm to be adjusted in the frame slots. Front toe is adjusted by adjusting the front wheel knuckle tie-rod.
From looking at the exploded diagram, you clearly have an upper control arm. Therefore, you do NOT have struts. You have coilovers just like the rest of the '04-06. (Excluding the '04 Heritage, of course)
