Spring pads
Spring pads
This indeed is a stupid question, but here's goes.
What is the real function of spring pads. Obviously, I've got leaf springs on my F150 (and can see the pads easily enough). My wife's car has coil springs in the rear (why my wife doesn't own an F150 is another thread's story), and makes a popping sound when turning right up inclines (especially in cold whether) which her dealer has a TSB on saying it's the spring pads (prematurely worn either upper or lower or both). He also said that it's not a really big deal and that we could wait until the next service to have it fixed. Having never really contemplated the question, I've always thougth that they were there just to damped such "boing" noises, but was wondering if the noise is doing any damage....
