Ride quality with suspension lift?

What does doing a suspension lift do to the ride quality of 4x2 and 4x4's..how about handling with 35's (97-present)?
Any particular manufacturer's lift kits better than the other's as far as ride quality and ground clearance?
I would imagine 35" tires would offer a pretty smooth ride by themselves. I plan on doing a 4" sus. lift and am a little leary of body lifts cause ive heard they can go thru the sheetmetal if you offroad alot..any hard drivers with body lifts?

Any input would be great!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!

I have a 4" Trailmaster lift w/ a 3" body lift and 35"s.I think it rides better than stock and runs straight as an arrow with no wondering. Because it is lifted it is a bit more top heavy but thats about it. What you heard about body lifts is a myth, I know dozens of trucks with body lifts, and never heard of anybody having problems.
I picked Traimaster because of price and also they have a good reputation. They do use spacers but have never had a problem with them, but I also don't do any extreme offroading. It is a very good kit. I'm sure they are all fine.
Hope this helps.

Gotta jump into this one...NICE TRUCK!
I have a few questions about it if ya dont mind.

Aint that hard to get in and out of?

Do you have the 4x selector in the floor? If so did you have to modify linkage or anything for the bodylift?

Which motor do you have and how well does it pull ALL of that around with the new gears?

How long have you had it lifted like that and has is been solid ever since?

Again, very nice truck..i'd love to lift mine (when i buy it) but im not sure if its worth it!

Thanks alot

DS- Thanks, it does help to have a little bounce in your step when getting in and out. I just added step bars but really don't use them. I have always had lifted vehicles and you adapt easily. I personally love lifted trucks and think its well worth it.
I have the electric 4x4 selector so did not have to modify but it's not hard to modify the lever either. Never seen one done on a Ford but I have done them on Jeeps many times and no problems. Welding shops can modify them easily.
The truck has the 4.6 in it, and I would have rather had more cubic inches, but can not complain. It runs very strong and with the gear change, it easily lights up the tires. It's been a great motor https://www.f150online.com/f150board/smile.gif
The lift has been on for about 9 months and is tight as ever. Very happy with it!

Thanks agian, Scott

Well I'm probably gonna get a 3" body lift, I'm currently lookin into the performance Accessories body lift kit. I'm doin my best to talk my father into letting me lift it, and so far it looks good. This is the last peice of the puzzle for my truck, I will be done if I get it, well that and some bigger tires https://www.f150online.com/f150board/smile.gif

Lites up those tires with a 4.6L huh? Impressive to say the least. I imagine with 4x4's you must change gears both front and rear so that must have cost ya! Thanks for the response and enjoy your truck..but sounds like yer way ahead of me on that one..hehe.

Thanks

Squant,
What kind of mileage do you get out of that truck with the 4.6 and the 35's?

Squanto804 12-02-1999 09:19 PM

I get about 13 to 14 mpg.

mudder 12-02-1999 10:15 PM

That's better than I get Squanto. I average about 12.4 in town, and 14.2 on the highway.

Squanto804 12-02-1999 11:22 PM

Actually I have not really checked it but I'm getting about 280 miles per tank full and before the lift I was getting just under 300 and 300 if I took it easy. 13 to 14 mpg is just an est.

DAVENSA 12-04-1999 06:17 AM

Squant, You arent taking the mileage off the sme speed are you...It will appear you ae only getting 280 miles per tank, just like the 5% difference in mph..the miles will be off too..You might have lost some mpg but not that much atleast i havent seen it that drastic..........Dave
