Wheel Alignment

A while back I saw a thread on here regarding front end alignment on the 2001 4x4 Supercrew. It talked about extra expense for the first time alignment and trying to get the dealer to do it before hitting 12,000 miles. Can anyone shed more light on this for me?

Thanks

I had the experience of getting my alignment before 12K on the recommendation of my neighbor. He is a mechanic and owns his shop. I took it to him for alignment and he directed me to the dealer since I had less than 12k miles. They wil do it for free ONLY if your truck alignment is out of specifications, and they will only install the kit on the side out of alignment. If you want the complete kit then you will need to be forceful with them and have the whole thing done, or you will pay the next time for the other half. In other words they will not install anything unless it is out of spec.

The "KIT" allows the truck to have a real alignment done. It replaces non adjustable somthing-or-others with adjustable deally-jigs. My tire shop said they run about $200.

Does this alignment kit only apply to the 4x4's or is there a supprise waiting for the 4x2's also?

Good info guys... thanks for your responses. So, for those of you with experience on this... do you recommend trying to get the dealer to do an alignment before I hit 12,000 miles??? Do they resist doing this?
