Oil Light ON and truck is full of oil!

My oil light comes on and the pressure needle drops to low when the truck is started. It is full of oil and coolant and has just received the 30K chaeckup over the holidays. Once the truck in gear the needle goes back to noraml and the indicator goes off. It would seem to me this is electrical or computer related???

Anybody have any similiar experiences or suggestions?

It goes in for new CD player(burning CD's) and leather seat covers on Friday.

2001 F150 Lariat Supercrew 4X2

Thanks Guys!

Hey! Your truck burns Cd's. I didn't know that was an option. Do you record from the radio? Where's the hard drive?

Just started this week. Temp has been getting to low 30's - high 20's at night. Have had to park the SCrew outside and when I first crank it up, the oil temp light comes on and stays on for a few minutes. Have not noticed the pressure gauge changing - will look for that in the morning.

Happened to me too. Went to dealer and had new oil sender installed.

Just got back from the dealer this morning. There is a TSB out on this and the sending unit was replaced - no questions asked.

Problem Solved!

I just got the truck back and they replaced the sender unit, oil pressure was fine. Also got the CD replaced as it was eating CD's. Too Hot!

Had 2 leather seat covers replaced, one had a slight tear in back support and driver seat had tear up near headrest .

I think the truck has settled in with the belltech shackles and it's riding better with the 3 degree shims.

Out.

Forgive me for resurrecting an ancient thread but it serves the purpose.

My truck (2000 5.4) did the same this morning. Light on, gauge bottomed out, oil full. Left it parked in the drive until I get a new gauge to make sure that's it.

How do you know it's OK to drive when this happens? I'd sure hate to lock up my engine because I thought it was just the gauge. Makes my stomach hurt to think about driving it with the oil light on.

Had an Expedition with 4.6 that used to do the same until it was good and warmed up. I was always nervous as a cat until the gauge jumped to normal and the light went off. Replaced the switch and solved the problem.

Thanks.

It's probably the same problem. I've been told these oil pressure sensors just have a binary readout so it either shows that either there's oil pressure or there's none. You should notice the needle always goes to the same spot. I would replace the OPS, and if it makes you feel any better there's not any way you can gain oil pressure once you've lost it.

BTW I've heard there's an aftermarket OPS you can install that will give you an accurate oil pressure readout on your gauge.
