I have a 03 Screw 5.4 4x4 lariat , great truck , I've maintained always with good oil and etc. Since around 150K ive been concerned about a knocking sound, it seems to get much better when hot , sounds it seems from the catalysts ? I cant really verify it in the oil pan area with a stethoscope , I suppose it could be piston slap/knock. I rebuilt the trans at 190K as preventative maint and was surprised how good it was inside. I pull a 3800 lb car on an open trailer in the summer also (even though the truck could use better brakes and more power).
Anyone here have a similar sound/noise ?

Funny thing is I was worried about that 50,000 miles ago and it's not much louder now. It still runs great , these are all highway miles , it will burn the back tires off the line if I hammer it , it's got a higher stall converter than stock and a catback I fabbed for it. I am not going to jinx it , I'll just keep taking care of it , and look in the high mile thread.

Wow truck looks great for the mileage.
Have you ever had the cats replaced? With the truck running go underneath carefully of course, and listen to the cats for a sound such as a rattle like a ball in a paint rattle can.
I had a Dodge Ram the cats were a recall and it made a similiar sound for a long time. From 67k to 170k. Replaced the cat and all was quiet.
