Post New Supercrew

Went looking with my buddy at new trucks. The dealer has one 4x2 loaded nicely. It fits with what my friend wants on his truck. One thing I noitced is that it was made in 8/00. I didn't look closer but I think it's a 2001 model. Just wondering what you guys think about buying a truck that is 8 months old (84 miles) Makes me wonder why this nice truck hasn't been sold. Are other customers seeing something that I'm not?

2001 Supercrew, 4x2, white/grey cloth, XLT, 5.4L, 3.55LS, tow, rear slider, moon roof, capt chairs. List $29800 On KBB.com it lists for $30280. I think Ford raised some prices since August. If this truck has been at the dealer for all this time you'd think they would move on the price pretty well. Is there any way to check the history on this truck? Thanks!

Truck is definitely a Gen I, make sure you are aware of the differences from what is standard on the new SCrews and not on Gen I, remote keyless entry now standard, for example, but it can be achieved w/after market option on Gen I.

Around here (and I bought one) Gen I's should now be selling for $5,000 less than sticker, not a penny more. I got mine in December (born date in June) with remote keyless added, for $4,500 off sticker.

Be careful....make sure you're aware of diffences, but otherwise it should be fine. This happens all the time with vehicles, but seldom are people aware of the age of a new car or truck...Good luck.

Same thing happened to me, I bought in Feb. 01, but my truck was "born on" 10-00. Mileage was 28... makes me wonder too why this truck sat there so long. I wonder if something happened at point of delivery and my truck has been in the body shop for a couple of months. When my mom wrecked her 93 T bird, that same dealers shop had her car for a month. I'm thinking if it's not a customer car, and they just worked on it whenever, that may be the reason! I couldn't find any paint defects like others here have found... that may be why! From now on I'm checking my "born on" dates before I buy, but I was unaware of it, didn't find this site until AFTER I bought! If I knew then what I know now... I would have still bought it LOL just one a little "fresher"

V10:

Here's some info I copied out of an old post that might get you on the way to learning about the different Generations. Unfortunately, I learned the hard way...almost...I happened to find this site the day after I put a deposit on a Gen I, after reading the specs at the dealer for a Gen III....the rest is history.

Best bet...use the search capability accessible above. Search for "Gen" in the subject and you'll get all the threads and discussion from a few months ago when this was a big(ger) issue. Nothing wrong with Gen I's, some say better built, just don't pay Gen III pricing!!!

(Generation I) before 7/10/00 which had Amazon Green as a paint choice

(Generation II) after 7/10/00 which included remote entry, automatic headlights, and leather wrapped steering wheel on XLTs with Deep Wedgewood Blue and Dark Highland Green as paint choices but lost Amazon Green

(Generation III) born sometime around November and included the new seats with rear head restraints, seat heat, and ORP option ?

If I've left anything out in the distinction between the three, please make addendums.

Gen I II or III who cares. Just find the truck you want, buy it and drive the wheels off it. My Mother-in-Law just bought a GenIII last night and the only difference I see between it and my GenI is the leather wrapped wheel and the seats. As far as price goes I know of four people who now own Screw's and nobody has paid sticker yet. Gen I II or III. Enjoy your trucks Folks

Do you know of anywhere that Ford has it in writing that Gen II includes Keyless entry standard? Is it standard on lariat only or XLT too?

I ordered mine in August of 2000, and picked it up first week of October, The only proof I had about Keyless being standard on an XLT was from KBB.com and they didn't accept it.

If it's out there FROM FORD, I'd take a trip back to my dealer and have a chat....thanks.

I have keyless entry via key fob on my Gen II XLT, but no panel of buttons on the drivers door like the Lariat. Funny thing is, the code for the "panel of buttons" keyless entry was included in my books on a little strip of paper (looked like a computer print out) The salesman even explained to me how it works, then we looked and I didn't have it! I didn't think much of it at the time, I'm satisfied with the key fob thingie. I'm still 100% satisfied with my truck.

Yeah my papers had the same small paper for the keyless entry numbers....each truck is programmed with a number, regardless of if it has the keyless entry or not.

Keyless entry on XLT's (with fob) started with GenII and dealers were notified of change with via service notice dated 8/30/00, so I'm told by local dealer. The issue isn't vehicle manufacturing quality, it's the marketing material that the dealer gives you indicating keyless entry, leather wrapped steering wheel, rear headrests, etc, etc, and then you get a substitute. For people like me who have had keyless entry for years, enjoy it and expected it in the vehicle...it was a big deal on pick up day and the truck would not open with the supplied fob's. $530 worth of big deal, the cost of getting it done after market.

I guess I must have mistaken my keyless entry....When I said keyless entry, I was thinking of the door keypad on the drivers side. I actually do have the key fob controller.

For those interested in installing the keypad keyless entry, parts told me it's like $75 (plus of course labor)

V-10 man ... just because the vehicle has been sitting that long doesn't mean that something is wrong with it. Except for the moonroof, I would have grabbed that truck in a heartbeat. But if you add the roof, I don't have enough headroom, and I wouldn't take that truck for myself, even if the moonroof was free! Or maybe most people at the time wanted 4x4's, everything goes in cycles. If it looks and drives good, buy it. Because spring and early summer brings out more new car buyers than any other time of year and someone will want one with a moonroof, Gen I or not. By the way, I have a Gen I, and I love it, almost 10 months old now!!! Note my Screw...
