Question Advance Cover the foldable hard toneau

Does anyone on here have the Advance Cover foldable toneau on their SCrew?

If so....How do you like it?

What is a fair price on this cover?

Thumbs up

Have had mine for about 6 months with no regrets. Makes the bed a very usable trunk.
The lid comes with 4 keyed latches that hold it on, one of mine is difficult to get the key into. Originally I thought I was going to get the "slam latches" but I see advance has since changed the web site to show otherwise. I often leave the back unlocked or just lock one latch to make access quicker, and lock the gate and top when needed.

The tailgate seal could be better, not because it leakes but because if I close the tailgate with the cover closed, I have to run my finger along the seal to get it to lay on top of the gate instead of being stuck inside of it, which looks like it would leak. Pretty small gripe.

Overall, I would not have been as happy with a soft cover or hard painted tonneau I don't think.

I think I paid about $449 plus tax for it. Took a few hours to install because the instructions are not very good, but it was pretty easy. I did not screw the weatherstrip to the bed rails as instructed, and so far have had no problems with it coming unglued.

FWIW: I wish Ford would offer an optional folding cover like the Sport Trac that is gray plastic that matches the side rails. I would have paid more for that.

I saw this on a buddys Dodge. Look very nice with clean lines and fit well. He had some minor problems with his bedliner (Rhino) and needed to cut out small pieces so the hindge would fit flush. I'm saving my penny's!

I have one too and I like it a lot.

I have to do the same thing as cpafay when I close the tailgate to keep the seal on the outside of the bed. I guess if I were to open the cover it wouldn't be a problem. Mine seems to seal pretty good. The bed is dry after driving in the rain and I haven't had to clean the bed out since it was installed because it has kept all the dust and dirt out.

Mine had a sheet of directions glued to the underside explaining how to remove the cover if necessary. Seems pretty easy. Haven't done that though. It also has a strap and snap so you can drive with the half of the cover folded without worrying about it flapping about.

The locks do have little plastic covers to keep the dirt and snow out. But to open it you have to unlock both locks on that half of the cover. That is a pain. They should be at least linked together. Also, automotive-style slam latches would be nice.

That sheet says don't sit on the cover but I did that when I was waxing the roof of the truck and it didn't move an inch. Very sturdy piece.

I paid around $500 for mine installed including being raped 8.25% for CA state tax (that still can't keep the power on). It was the first one that shop had installed and they said that it was a well designed piece that was simple to install with good directions. I'm very pleased with it. I was going to get the Retrax but at twice the cost and the "roller can" taking up half a foot of space at the front of this already shortened bed, this was a much better choice.

If you send your email address I'll take the digital camera home and send you some pictures of it.

I have my bed Rhino lined and there was no problem with that liner when the cover was installed. The front seal sits down fine on the liner on the front of my bed.

Question

Hi fellow screws
This advance folding tonneau sounds great.
Have any of you seen a website or email address for Advance? Would love to find out more about this unit.

Thanks for the picture offer, but I had a chance to see one in person on a SCrew. I was able to look it over really good and I liked what I saw. I wished it came in a tri-fold or four fold, but due to the bed design I understand why it is only a bi-fold.

I really liked the fact that it is easily removable. Weighs less than 40lbs,I am told.

The security of it over the soft covers is important to me also.

I did not care for the individual locks......but I will be thinking of how I can make my own improvement on this area.

I was considering the Roll N Lock cover, but could not get past the way it looked on the SCrew and the $$$$$$$$$$.

I guess with the curvature of the bed, there is no perfect toneau cover around, so we just have to figure out what will work best for us.

So as of today 3/21/01 I have my Advance Cover on order.

Thanks Guys for all of the replys

The Houston area dealer is K-Covers their phone # is 281 KCOVERS or 281 452-6837 asks for Jackie. They are just getting started as a dealer for this cover. The cost is 495 + tax. They own a SCrew and have one on it to show. Tell them Scott Grant referred you (no commission...LOL). They said delivery is about a week....we'll see.

Good Luck.....ssg57

I also posted this in a new thread.

I have been speaking with Penny at fold-a-cover and she says they will have a 4-fold cover for the SuperCrew sometime in April. For an example of what it would look like on a small bed such as the SCrew, she suggested I look at one on a Dodge Dakota quad-cab. I haven't yet seen one or a picture.

Anyone have experience with Fold-a-Cover, how hard are they to remove completely, or is the Advance cover the way to go? My requirements are an easily removable (anywhere I happen to be) tonneau that will stay on 90% of the time. I definitely prefer a hard cover to the snap or snapless soft covers.
