Thumbs up Got Rust?

I had some rust on the underside of my beloved SCrew. I was going to paint over it until a friend of mine who is a chemist told me that painting over the rust still leaves the rust under the paint to eat into the base metal and then into and out of the paint. He said to you have to use a rust converter to convert the rust and seal out the two things needed for rust, moisture and oxygen. He told me about a product that has been used by Detroit for years, called NeutraRust.

I got some of it and painted it on my rusty spots under the truck and "Vola", the rust turned into a black organic iron compound, and sealing out the moisture and oxygen.

It is not in stores, you have to call them direct. The nice lady there told me it only comes in gallons, but actually was willing to send it to me in quarts.

Go to www.neutrarustinc.com for info on this stuff. I think it is pretty cool.

Mike

Thanks for the info, how much was a quart?
A few days after I got my Screw, I noticed rust appearing, and recalled seeing ones that were really rusty. I sanded the rust spots and painted the axles, springs, etc. with a black rubberized undercoating from the auto parts store.
Do you paint over the stuff you got, or does it just stay black?
TIA

Question

Why aren't these trucks going back to dealership to be taken care of? Doesn't that go under the bumper to bumper deal. Or do you feal you can do a better job and forget the dealer?

My dealer was getting ready to deliver a very rusty Screw when I was finalizing my deal. I kidded around with her and told her to order my new truck from Ford w/o rusty parts. I asked what they'd do if I wanted rusty parts replaced and she said they'd do nothing unless it was a total recall of all Screws, which basically meant that Ford did not consider the rust to be a problem.
Rust may be ok with them, but its not with me.

I got this from Ford's site, it seems like they would fix it or take preventative measure on a brand new truck so that they don't have to replace stuff when it rusts all the way through.

Under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty, you’ll receive bumper-to-bumper no-deductible coverage on your new Ford vehicle for 3-years/36,000 miles. You’ll also receive unlimited-mileage, no-deductible corrosion perforation coverage for five years. Ask your Ford Dealer for a copy of this warranty.

Ummmm . . .. Hello0 -- RUST IS NOT, REPEAT NOT, A NORMAL OCCURRENCE IN A NEW VEHICLE. I have had several 4wd's -- and never, ever had a rust problem. It simply doesn't follow that if you go offroad on your 4wd, or Heaven forbid, get it wet, that you get rust.

If this is happening, Ford has GOT to stand behind their trucks and fix it.

Thumbs up

Fem,

I paid $17.50 for a quart, you can buy a gallon for around $35.00. Call their toll free number and speak to Laurie or Lori, not sure how she spells it. 877-661-7878. I looked in the JC Whitney Catalog and their rust converter is $20 plus shipping, so the NeutraRust is a better deal. The NR goes on white, but then as the rust is converted it turns deep black. You can put a top coat over it to seal it in if you think you should do that. I did not do that on my truck, and kept some for touch ups as needed.

Regarding dealers fixing this, yes they should, but I felt it better to take matters into my own hands and fix it myself. I figured it was better to convert the rust myself rather than having some car dealer detail guy slap some paint on it and not take care of the problem. Take your receipt to the dealer and have him pay for it after you have fixed it. Trust me, they would not use the right process, but only paint over it.

Let me know if you have more questions. My experience with the NeutraRust has been great.
