Why did my Dad's 05 expy beat my 05 FX4

I have a 2005 FX4 extended cab. My Dad has a 2005 expedition. Both have same engine, 5.4 3V. He had like six people in his truck, and I had only me and my wife. From a dead stop, we were even until about 35 or 40 then he just starts pulling away. He also gets better gas mileage than me. I average around 12, if I'm lucky. He gets like 14-15. Why? Gears would not make that kind of difference in power and gas mileage. My truck runs OK, but sheesh.

I had a 2000 expy 4 wheel drive, traded it on my new 07 fx4. I think it was just flat out quicker. I think alot also has to do with how they are geared too.

He has a 6 speed tranny...less power loss, better power band.

My 2005 FX4 was a dog compared to the wife's 2006 Expedition. They seem to be programmed differently because they both sported a 3V 5.4L, 4-speed tranny with 3.73 LS. My 2007 FX4 will give her Expedition a run for its money (same power train). She's quicker 0-35, but I'll blow by her after that. We both get 15MPG in mixed driving.

According to Ford's sale literature, the F-150 is programmed for a slow and steady take-off to avoid the neck breaking herky-jerky acceleration found on other makes of trucks. The slow accel is annoying at times, but I've found it very pleasant when towing.

It even feels much stronger when I drive it, With 7 people in it!!!! This really hacks me off. It's a 2005 also. Why would Ford put a 6 speed tranny in the Expy and not a half ton truck? I expected that it had something to do with the calibration in it.

You should let him win even if you are faster, he's your dad for crying out loud.

You gotta know he let you 'win' plenty of times when you were a runt.

You sure it's a 6-speed tranny? Book says they're 4-speed.

Expy

Expy did not come on a 6 speed on that year...

I disagree. Looks like dad dropped in a CAI, custom tune, and a set of gears behind his son's back so that he can smoke him.

I wonder if the ford dealership could flash my truck with the same program for a 2005 expy, without causing any problems?

Yep it has a 6 speed.......4 speed trans + hi and low 4wd = 6 speed. LOL!!!!

Worland, your right on....should be a 4r100(4speed) if memory serves me correct.

Just have Rousch do a little tune job on it for you, like maybe a Stage II. Then you can blow everyone's doors off. Nothin' about $10K wouldn't cure!
