engine trouble's
 

Anyone else have had this similar problem? I thought/think that I got some bad fuel, I filled up a a gas station in the next town twice last week or so. A few day's later I started my truck up and it was shaking and did the same thing when I was driving it . then the check engine light came on. When I would go down the freeway the light would blink. I looked in the owner's manual and it said solid light could be bad fuel or fuel cap om wrong and blinkeng was misfire. I called 2 ford dealers and they said it probally wasn't fuel but plug's and/or coil's. I took it to a mechanic here and he hooked up the comp and it said #6 cylinder was misfiring. He said to start with the plug's the see if it was a coil. To change all 8 is $156. I was going to chenge the #6 and coil myself but was told it was better for a pro just in case. I was only going to change the one since ford said that the plug's are 100,000 miles and I don't have half of that yet. I made the appointment to do it and then it quit shaking and the light went out. so I was like cool. I went to the next town and back and it ran like a champ so I cancelled the appointment. Then The next day it started all over again. What do you guy's theink? Thanks

My 2001 just started doing exactly the same thing Friday. I took it to Autozone and had the code read and got Misfire on cylinder #6. I haven't had a chance to attack it yet though. I tried to buy a coil but they were out at the parts store. I feel it is more likely to be the coil than a plug though.

I have a 2001 SUPERCREW. It did the same thing. I changed the # 7 coil. It took care of the misfiring.

Today the light went out again and have an appointment for the morning. Still gonna get it fixed. Wondering if I shoul just have the coiled changed.

What kind of miles are you all experiancing this at? Just curious if there is a pattern here.

Why not try some fuel additive to remove moisture as a first effort? Cost very little and you need to give it some time to work throu the gas in the tank and fuel sysytem.

46,000 miles for me. Fuel additives don't do sheet. I added two bottles of heet when it first startred doing it and when the light quit, I put in a concentrated fuel system cleaner when the tank was nearly empty and topped it off with a high quality fuel. So that wont help.

I'd almost guarantee you its a bad coil. I had the same experience.

I just asked my Bro in NM and he said he powerwashed his motor and for whatever reason water got inside the coil when this happened to him, it ruined the coil.

So if you've powerwashed your engine lately that may be the problem.

I had all eight plugs changed. Two were bad but the one on the number 6 cylinder was real bad and was rusted on the top half. Two boots were bad.

Did the plug change cure your problems? Nothing wrong with coils? I still haven't addressed mine.

So far so good. I am going to keep my eyes :rolleyes: open though.

I just got mine out of the shop yesterday 55k on it ,intake manifold gasket failed and was seeping coolant onto coil/plug extende warranty covered it.

Sounds like the same thing mine is doing. My warning light hasn't come on yet but it just started a couple of weeks ago around 65K miles. It's more like a "heaving" or "jump" instead of a shake. I cleaned and oiled my filter but that didn't help. I guess it needs a tune-up or has a coil problem.

Dug into mine yesterday. Had a new coil and plugs on hand. Pulled old coil and it was really wet. Looked down into the hole and there was water around the plug. Vacuumed out the water and pulled the plug. It was rusted and I replaced it. I dried out the boot for the old coil and put some dielectric grease in it and put it back in. Cranked it and it ran fine. Pulled the battery cable and the "service engine" light went away. Ran normally rest of day.

I am concerned however about the water. I think there has to be a leak somewhere. I haven't washed the engine, ever. I am afraid of a head/intake gasket failure.

I'll probably pull the coil next weekend and look for water in the hole again.
