oil filter location

Having just purchased a 2003screw(5.4) and seeing the the oil filter does any one know of an after market kit to move the filter block to another place? On my 99 the filter block was extended for easy access.

You can kits from many sources. Summit Racing being one of them. I had a '99 also and it was easier. But the new ones aren't that difficult. When the filter is unscrewed, don't try to take it straight down. Slide it to the front some more, then down. I changed a couple times and haven't spilled a drop. It goes quick after the first one.
I personally don't want any extra plumbing on the truck. And I'd be more nervous mounting the filter in some of the places I've seen (front fenderwell for one).

Good luck!

I had my friendly Ford dealer order the Ford OEM parts to relocate the filter on my Screw. That and a Fumoto drain valve make oil changing a breeze!

You'll have to give some thought to how you use your rig. There is always a possibility that you could damage the remotely mounted filter if you are into off road 4 wheeling.....but then again, you can damage your radiator, rip a hole in your tranny pan, bust an axle etc. Its the chance you take, accidents do happen. And yes, if you hit something hard enough to crumple the bumper, you may also damage the filter and then you can't drive home. The solution to that is to call the tow truck.

Aftrmidnite, I can't promise you that the following info is correct... I don't even know where I got it.

When I bought my truck, part of the deal included the parts necessary to install the remote mount. The parts man at the local Ford dealer is a real sharp guy and he had to order the individual parts using the parts list for an older F-150. He got everything right on the first try.

The dealer absorbed most of the cost of the parts. I had to give them 50 bucks, and install the parts myself. (removing the lower rad. hose from the block is a major pain in the rear) Because the dealer didn't actually sell the parts to me, they didn't give me an invoice listing the part numbers or prices. Like I said earlier, I don't know if this list is accurate or not, but it is better than nothing. If you have a competent parts person, they should be able to sort through the micro-film and find everything you need.

Hope it helps a bit.
