Roof ridges, anyone else hate them?

I must say this is petty, but after 2 years of owning my Supercrew, the only real gripe I have is those roof (water collector) ridges.

I get in the truck in the morning after a rain, put it in reverse and proceed to get 5 or so rivers spaced evenly across the front window. It wouldn't be so bad if it just happened that one time, but then the next few times I put on the brakes, the rivers return.

Ya, what is the purpose of the ridges? It's bad enough having to get a step lader to clean up there when I wash my truck but then I have to really scrub in the ridges to get dirt out there that's dried from the last time it rained.

Yeah, Ruffles have ridges, not F-150's. Those ridges are a pain, but I'm sure they are there to add some sort of stability.

Rain! Geez. If only it was just rain that slid so easily off the roof. Imagine having 1 1/2 feet of snow up there.. forgetting to sweep off the roof, and coming to a sudden stop at a light...

I don't like them either. They are a pain when washing because even at a slight incline, still hold water. Makes it hard to dry.

I'll definately jump on board with this gripe. Like all of you have mentioned, all they seem to do is hold water and cause the rivers that were mentioned earlier...

I'm sure they have a purpose though...

Emergency Water Collection System (EWCS)... LMFAO!!!!!

Look on page 87 in your manual... it specifically mentions the EWCS and states:

"...if you are ever stranded in the woods, your Ford F-150 SuperCrew is equipped with an emergency water collection system (EWCS) located on the roof of your vehicle....<snip>.... to consume collected water, simply lap the water up like a canine or similar animal to help sustain life..."
LMAO!!! Geesh, that's too funny.

I like them, the water don't seem to come running down on the passenger or drivers windows like it did in my Mustang...

Burt, you only have two. These guys have like 8 or 12.

Guys, if you don't want all that stuff sliding down your windshield when you stop, open your sunroof.

The channels provide stability for the roof. If you create angles in any material it increases the strength. I am assuming if it was flat you would get wind vibrations at high speeds and could not strap your dead deer to the roof...If the bed was already filled with 12 pointers.

Seriously, It is for strength. If you look the reg cabs have 2 and the expeditions have 4 like the Screws.

Just my $.02

So Will, you are implying that the reg cabs are weak?

The channels on the reg cabs are rain gutters just as the outermost channels on the Expeditions/Screws are. I would agree that the inner(extra) channels are for strength.

I hate 'em

I thought I was the only one that hated them. When i wash my truck, I go on the bed with my leaf blower and blow the dang water out of the ridges. I blow out my billet, too. No water spots.

Yep, those REALLY suck, for all the aforementioned reasons. They could have made them with runoff grooves if they HAD to have them... As for structural stability, a lot of sedans don't have them, so why would a truck?
