why?

you were onto something there.

I think they look terrible. MUCH happier with my 03.

jasonesmith12 Aug 21, 2003 12:26 AM

cuz I want Ford to be around long enough to scrap the 04 and do it right again (-:

I was given a 2004 to drive for 3 hours. I think Ford has a hit with this truck. I really liked the electronic accelerator. This truck has a massive look to it. I had a FX4 with the 18" rims SuperCab. I got a positive response everywhere I took it. It relly seemed to drive very good.

I''ll rephrase

WHat if someone took your 01-03 Screw and

-moved the 12V accesory outlet halfway up the dash on the passenger side, not hidden, just in the middle of the dash.

-Took your truck and modified the dash so that the two in dash drink holder were gone for good.

-moved the jack from behind the backseat to just under the edge of the backseat so you can't slide anything under the seat any longer.

-took your metal bumper on your lariat and clad it in chintzy plastic.

-took your chrome running board tubes and put the older style plastic ones on (maybe this is an option, I don't know)

-took your seats out and gave them the appearace of being about 30 percent thicker, but made them so firm they were less comfortable.

-put a "dash wood kit" in your lariat but made it look like cheap peel off one dimension decals.

-Took all the rounded edges that are aerodynamic and squared them off.

Then my friends, you'd have yourself the aproximation of a new 2004 Screw, sat in the demo Screw (yes it was a Screw) yesterday at the dealer.

couldn't have said it better. FUGLY. and deleted good ideas, replaced with dumb ones... I'd fire the engineers and ..... yadaydayda......:beers:

I have to agree. I do not care for the '04 either....but then, i didn't like the present truck when it came out in '97. The '97 body style grew on me though. I like it well enough now.
I sure hope the '04 grows on me too. Personally, I still prefer the '92-'96 exterior over any other truck ever built.

Reb.

I LOVE the looks of my '01 SCrew. That's why I bought it.... I thought it was, and still is, the best looking truck out there.

That being said, i'm with you fellers on the 92-96 body style- It's a CLASSIC and if I were a man of means and multiple garages I'd find a 96 cream-puff and buy it.

The 97'-03 body style was pretty tame, but it definitely looks really good in the SuperCrew, not quite as good in a Supercab though in my opinion. It seems to be more of an SUV body style than a Truck body style.

I think the F250 is the best looking truck hands-down and they basically merged the 1/2 style with this which helps if you want a truck that looks like a truck.

I've owned two 97's and have been very happy with both trucks.

I do like the new "blocky' front end and most of the exterior features including the big blue oval on the taigate!

Change is always a bit tough, but I think by 05, most people will definitely definitely like this truck's style.

The items you mention may seem like a big deal, but compared to the frame, drivetrain, and safetey improvements they've made, they are minor details.

In general, when you drive through dealer lots, there are so many blah, boring, one-tone trucks, it's unbelievable.

Throw in a 04' Step Side, Two-tone F-150 and I definitely like what I see!

RebelYell Aug 23, 2003 09:53 AM

Look under the '04 FX4 and you'll see plastic skid plates. That's right Plastic Skid plates!!??!?!?!?!?

Can you say "CHEAP"!? What good are plastic skid plates?? I'll tell you....NONE.
And the gigantic blue oval dead center in the tailgate looks unbelievably gaudy!
No more "cranking the bars" on the 4x4's either. The front is now "coil-over-shock" suspension. So to level the truck, you now will have to buy new springs instead of taking the 10 minutes to crank the bars.

I dislike the appearance of this truck more than any Ford truck before. I just hope Ford either tones it down later on or else my senses dull somewhat so that I can "kinda like it" someday.

Whew......now I feel better! :D

I didnt like the current body style when it came out either. But now i have a 2003 supercrew and really like it. As far as the plastic skid plates, most newer snowmobiles have plastic skis! They are supposed to take more impact than steel. Give it a chance and let it grow on ya.

PA Dutchman Aug 23, 2003 08:39 PM

Plastic skis may take more impact when jumping a snowmobile but when setting a two ton truck down on a stump, I'd like some steel between my fueltank and the imoveable object.

IMHO: The 04 is too square, they took off all the girly bumps I so love to polish and admire.

The rail system is way cool. but there are too many other things that just don't make me want one.

scapegoat32 Aug 23, 2003 08:46 PM

:D like I said in an earlier post on this matter, I sure am glad I bought an 03

familyman Aug 23, 2003 08:47 PM

I like the 02

That's why I bought it!!

Have had numerous compliments on it also, when I had my exhaust done after backing it out the guy at Meineke just stood and stared at it for about 5 minutes telling me how nice it is :D

Haven't seen or driven a new style yet so can't really comment, sounds like a weekend chore ;)
