Whipple Installed

Well for many years now I have been following this forum and others with an interest in boosting my engine and I can finally say, It's On!!

Using a Volant air box with the Whipple 95mm MAF housing. IC coolant tank is the Whipple upgraded piece not seen here.

Very nice!

Looks like it came from the factory that way. Good control on the wiring and hoses -- doesn't look like a mess.

Nice work, MeanGene.

Curious - did you do the install yourself? If so, how long did it take? Complicated?

Also, what do you think about the results? SOTP? Mileage change? Fun factor?

I have an 04 with 81K miles and am thinking of going SC. I want to do the work myself (I think).

The Whipple install is pretty easy I would say. It is basically changing out the intake manifold. The new Whipple kits have been updated and use a different intake and inter-cooler reservoir. I took my time, took Thursday and Friday off and completed it over the weekend.

This shows the old setup with the reservoir mounted over the radiator and the hard to service air box.

IC Tank now mounts here, holds around 2 Gallons.

I used a modified Volant air box, but the revised kits for the 2004-2008 include an intake that is like modern CAI intakes. The new Whipple intake, I was told, is similar to the kit used on the 6.2L Raptor, but I have never seen a picture of it.

Yeah, having a Forced Induction F-150 is a lot of fun, no doubt about it. It is like having a 6000 lb. sports car. When not in boost the Whipple has a bypass valve to provide very good drive-ability and gas mileage is about the same as long as you stay out of it. However, it will use the gas required to support the larger amount of air, so it will suck it down when pushed.

What did it cost?

Well, in my case I found a used one from a member on this forum. You can find them used, they are still around. I think I was lucky and got it from someone who knew how to take care of things. I prettied it up a bit with 12.9 grade Nickel plated fasteners, although you might not be able to tell from the pictures. I have to add that along the way I needed to call Whipple for some parts and support and they were always there for what was needed to get it done.
