to procharge or not to procharge

i was wondering what your thoughts are one procharging a 2009 f150.. It is a 5.4L 3V engine with a roush cold air intake on it. the truck is running close to 104,000 miles. The mileage is my main concern with doing something like this to my truck.

what is your budget?

prochargers are really for 4000 rpm and up, does nothing for low end or towing

Not much power down low with 355 gears in rear. When I went to 20 inch wheels it was a dead dog. 410 gears now but 1st gear is useless.

The budget isn't an issue. I was just hoping to make the truck more fun to drive, but if it's not worth it since the engine is starting to get older I won't mess with it. the point of doing this is to make the truck funner. I also don't want to blow the engine though, if that makes sense.

research the different blowers for your truck and then determine how you use your truck

i would not mess with it.

a procharger or whipple will be expensive, $7k plus

a tune will make it drive a little better , but i would not classify it as making the f150 "fun"

dont confuse a tune on a new ecoboost to a tune on a 5.4 n/a motor. \

last, budget is always an issue. when people say cost is not an issue...well that just is not true. Bill gates has a budget in mind for everything he does.

I have had a procharger on mine for over 10 years. About 3 years ago I had an accident and was laid up for a few months. Well the oil leak allowed too much oil to drip out and I ended up blowing that engine. It had over 150,000 miles on it. The replacement engine has over 180,000 on it and it runs just fine. Do not let the milage of your engine scare you away from boosting it. A proper tune and a well maintained engine will go a long way before blowing up. Beware though that reving it too high undert too much boost will kill any engine. As others have mentioned a procharger will not show boost till you see 3000+ rpm. For the truck I have and what I use it for the procharger was the best choice.
