KNOCK, KNOCK! Guess who's there.....
The time has come to look for a new engine. Has a wee bit of a KNOCK above 3000 rpm. :scared: Stock 1999 5.4 held up pretty well for the abuse it has been put through.
Would have lasted longer if the oil leak would not have gotten ahead of me. Last month it needed over 4 quarts to bring it back to the hash marks. Not sure what to do at this point. $$ is a factor. For now the blower belt is on the back seat. Looked at junk yard engines till I can save for something that will last longer. Maybe a 6.2....... |

how many miles did you get out of it?
i would look for a used motor. how much longer are you thinking of keeping the truck. |
I never really measured the mileage but I figure I got at least 100k out of it. 90% of that was with the 15 lb pulley. Did some further testing and it might not be rod. Rod knock would happen all the time. This starts on tip in above 2500 rpm. Doesn't happen under load. I am in the process of moving and don't have a lot of free time to chase this down. I think it might be timing chain related.

Finally some good news. I found a replacement engine for my truck. A friend is scrapping his 2001 Expedition and is selling me the engine. This will allow me to rebuild the 99 engine. It still runs and knocks above 2000 rpm but it only needs to hold out for a few more weeks.

That's sucks, but it's cool the engine was there for yuh during the move!
Good Luck buddy..Need anything? |
 good luck
|
I wanna keep track of this. I remember your "boost it till it blows, then throw another one in" mentality lol.
|
Same mentality he had with transmissions for awhile; I had a feeling he enjoyed that haha.
:beers: |
It must be Troyer's fault that it blew :scared:

feel free to read up on Manny, anyone to local to him has to go back thru each motor received from his shop due to lack of parts installed and lack of tightening bolts, let alone torquing them

:lurk:
