No 4.6 FI setup, build?

Let me start by saying I love boost! I was in Japan for three years and lived the F&F fanboys wet dream. I got a G35 when I got back and started working on it but it was getting eaten where I live. The terrible roads and bugs, coyotes made me sell it and pick up a F150. Wanted something I could take on the trails/hunting. Now I am craving boost and cant find a FI kit.

I was thinking about building one of my own and can see why it would be too hard to build a conservative 5-7 lb kit. Now this is just me thinking out loud, so feel free to help out, but I know I would need turbo, piping, injectors, intercooler, and an oil tap. With the help of a muffler shop I could weld all the pipes with intercooler. The biggest thing I could see is mounting the turbo itself. Of course it would need tuning which would be out of my hands.

Has anyone built a turbo system before?

well, if you have a 2 valve 4.6 and can't find anything to bolt on, and you crave a cookie cutter kit then a custom built turbo probably isn't for you either...

yea an 07 4.6 2V. I have no problem custom building a turbo kit I just wish I had a tuner in my area, the closest one is 4 hours away in Albq. The only reason a kit is nice is not having to fabricate everything.

I have never done a FI custom build and was just dont know where to start. Did you build your own?

you could make a 97-03 procharger, paxton, or vortech kit work, use the search function, somebody did it or explained it. also any 99-04 mustang roots kit, the manifold and the supercharger will bolt right up to your engine, but i believe the heat exchanger is where the problems lie, and there are some other minor modifications that need to be done. hope this will steer you in a direction.

I can't see how the STS would be that different between the 5.4 and 4.6. Maybe have to do a lil tweaking but shouldnt be that big of a deal. And he's out in desert country, so no need to worry about the rain issue. OR...just trade it in and get a 5.4.

im sure you could make ur own STS style turbo for alot less. i could be wrong thoe. its just a remote mounted turbo if your good at fabing stuff up just pick up a turbo you like and remote mount it.

or find a blower off a 4.6 mustang. the 2001 Mach1's had them didnt they?? i found a few in the search for my truck but picked up a PI 5.4 for 150 bucks.
