4.6L V8, Tons of horsepower needed...
Okay, this is my first post, hello.
SO I just bought this truck from my sisters boyfriend. It's a 1999 4.6L V8, it has an air intake and exhaust. I knw the exhaust is like the best you can buy and it's loud as a mothereffer. I'm not sure how much horsepwer those two things added, but I know the stock horsepower is 220.
I want to get this thing up to 400 horsepower. How would I do that? I looked at Eaton superchargers and people say those are tight. I have heard about superchips but I don't know what they are or how they work... Help?

220 is rated for the crank, by the tiem it gets to the wheels its much lower. it shouldnt be to hard for you to get 400 at the wheels if you do ur homework on forced induction.
i know that a supercharger takes a lot of power to make power because it runs on a belt.
I know some guys with v6's runnin 310-390rwhp and thats on a v6 f150! at anywhere from 8-12 psi with a custom fabricated turbo setup.
so if u were to do the same setup on a 4.6l v8, im sure u'd be way up there! superchargers are great and all but turbo's are badass too! its much easier though to find a supercharger kit for the 4.6l v8....
goodluck with whatever you do.

Hope you got deep pockets brother, you're about to jump into a very expensive hobby. Supercharger, turbos, fuel mods, fans, coolers of different sorts, it just goes on and on. But you can be sure of one thing, it's all worth it when you set up next to a vette or a rice tuner and watch their mouths drop in your rear view mirror. Like the boys said, do your homework, talk to as many people as you can and you'll be happy. BTW: good choice on color. Good luck.

A very sharp looking truck. Other than the front bumper and that chrome on the back bumper, it looks like a lightning.
I also wanted the performance you talk about. After looking at several options and doing my research and then pricing parts, I went and bought a lightning..
As a complete package it is very competive in cost but holds it value better.
If you are going to go to a forced air system, there are several things to be aware of. Running lean and burning a piston, and compresion detonation at higher rpm can stress or break the rods. A good dyno tune is also needed to keep the engine safe.
Lurk in the Lightning section and start researching.
BTW 400 rwhp will put you into the low 13.00 to high 12 in the 1/4 mile,

I'm in Southern California
Oh and also, this dude I was talking to said that i would need to drop my truck even more if I wanted to supercharge it, I don't know if he knew what he was talking about, but yeah...
So if I were to procharge this sucker I would need to tune it? Whats that? I don't want to blow up my engine haha. I also noticed that I can make my truck shift faster, when it hits 3,000rpm i let go of the gas and hit it again real quick and it speeds me way the hell up (same for when it hits 4k and 5krpm). Is that safe for my engine?
