Troyer E-Fans or Mad's Fans?

I've decided while I got my truck apart installing my Procharger, might as well put on electric fans instead of putting the clutch fan back on. I want to buy a plug and play kit. What fans can I get that I can mount without any major mods? With the two cooler tubes running so close to the radiator, I didn't figure the mad fan would work. Thought maybe T's E-fans, the tubes might run between the motors. Anybody got any comments or suggestions?

E-fans are one of the last major things of purchase before I install. The other is my crank pulley and some mounting hardware. I'm choppin at the bit!!!

Thanks anyone....

HI!... I've been running two DERALE 16" electric fans now for over 5 years. Can't beat them. They have been through hell and back and both work flawlessly. They are similar to the TROYER PERFORMANCE fans that MIKE came out with a few years ago.

Well I may not be the expert on e-fans but I really think you need to do alot of research on this site. I went with MADs fans because of the controllers. Two 16''ers was a tight fit mounted as pullers. I also have the Procharger and you're right, the outlet tube from the blower interferes with the #2 fan motor. I've heard some guys are setting them up as pushers but I'm not sure just how effective the cooling is because of the A/C cond. I took it to my favorite muffler shop and they simply bent the outlet tube and now I have no problems. So read as many threads on this as you can, you'll get good info. Good luck.

Will you be using the 3 core intercooler? (recommended) I have the 3 core Procharger and I run the Flexalite dual fan set up. I like it because of its stock mount shroud.
To use with the Procharger, you need to modify the upper tubes. Not that hard. I cut them and had them welded. I cleaned them up nice. Some guys have used silicone tubing to join the cut pieces. (I think Ganiman did that.) It is a little different with the 2 core unit as the tubes both exit the intercooler from the same side. The Flexalite fans are very good since they figured out the Fuse Holder issue. They use a microprocessor to control fan speed, with soft start and 5000 cfm. I don't like the idea of mounting the fans with the zip ties through the radiator. Here is a pic of my setup.

I installed Troyer dual 16" with dual controllers, and they work great...... even sitting in traffic with the a/c onfor long periods in 110+ degree weather.
To say that they install with zip ties is hardly fair.
I found the fastening system to be very good after five months or so.
The dual controllers are precisely adjustable, and have thus far worked flawlessly.

I will only be running the 2-core for now. Maybe when I go 12psi I'll get the 3-core. May just have to wait until I start the install to see if I have to shorten the tubes. I really don't want to though. I already got them painted :(
Good lookin install D... How much psi you runnin? 4.6...5.4

I hope I want be disappointed with my charger. I'm trying not to think big. :)

ONELOWF: I wasn't dissing MT fans. I'm sure they are great. I just like the shroud that uses the factory hookup. I do use his active transcooler with DeRale fan. Hard mounted.

CDB03STX: You have no choice but to shorten the tubes if you use EFans...any Efans, unless you mount them as pushers. That was not an option for me. I have a 5.4 on a HEAVY 4x4 S'Crew. I am running 9psi with 42# injectors, 90mm Lightning MAF, and a Troyer tuned XCal2. This truck kicks major butt. You will NOT be disappointed

O well, Didn't figure I could just put it on and start her up. That would disrupt the lucky streak I've had rounding up parts...

Sounds like we will have the same setup with the exception of engine displacement.

Thanks

The throttle body spacer will have to come off. That is another inch to remove from the tube to the throttle body. I'm sure you were planning on removing it.
I got $60 bucks for mine on ebay. I also sold my K&N, Granatelli MAF, and old chip. Got $450 all told. Paid for the $250 upgrade to the 3 core intercooler. :D

I have those flex-a-lite efans as well, and they are the shiat! Talk about easy intall! They just set right in the factory location and use the same bolts. One of the best add ons I have ever done, bar none. Mine are set to come on at 195 and with that the motor never gets over 204. I have put it through hellish tests with my scanner online and never crested 204. I am no really a fan of having to do the zip style install either, not knocking anyones product. I tried that route years ago on my stang and didn't like it. You can get the flex-a-lites from summit racing shipped to you for about $425

if you want the best fan controller make sure you buy Mad's...it is great and flawless...great instructions and great functions

madferraristi Dec 12, 2005 10:07 AM

You can't use the single, two speed fan with a Procharger (well not easily).

You can buy the MAD controller to use with Permacool, Derale or any other brand of fans. Like Burger King, you can "Have it Your Way".

I thought about the spacer last night after reading your post. I had originally decided to leave it. I talked to Crash a while back about it; He said it wouldn't help..(Which I had already figured out) nor help with the charger. 60 bucks ain't to bad. I paid only about 80 for it new. I already got some bits on the Volant intake. Did you always run the 3-core or did you start with the 2? Is there a big difference?

Started with the 3 core. Did a ton of research. Use the search feature to check for "3 core intercooler, procharger" and such. There have been threads about it before.
I did it for the coolest charge air temp I could get, and for the "possibility" of future boost upgrades.

Well, just ordered my fans. Decided on the Troyer fans. All's left is the pulley and mounting hardware.
