rear driver's side speaker

i was wondering if anyone could tell me how to remove the rear driver side speaker...the reply to my last post was for a supercrew and i figured out how to get the 3 speakers out of the doors but the one behind the driver side does not have a door in my extended cab... any help would be appreciated

This one is a pain in the rear! Hear is what I did...

Remove all of the snaps and fasteners on the plastic panel that the speaker is behind. THIS INCLUDES THE REAR SEAT BELT.
One thing you should be aware of... there is a plastic post just under the bolt for the seatbelt. It goes into a hole in the metal behind the panel. BE SURE YOU PULL IT OUT STRAIT!!! I went at it the wrong way and tore open the plastic on the panel. Fortunately it is hidden by the seatbelt, but it still pissed me off. When I reassembled the truck, I cut that post off! It was impossible to get back into place. I don’t think there is any logical reason for it.

Once you've found every fastener, pull the panel away from the body. It is my opinion that the only way to remove the panel is to remove the seats. I was not about to disassemble my entire truck for a speaker, so I just worked in between the panel and the body. I was able to replace and rewire a new speaker this way.

Good luck and be careful...

I didn't remove the panel completely, I just undid everything I could and pulled the corner back to install my speaker. It's a PITA at the very least to get to. I couldn't believe how open the area around the speaker was. It's very close to be being a free air situation. Bad design if you ask me. I stuffed a little fiberfill in there and it seemed to help the sound a bit. Good luck,,,,,98
