New to this, What's the best setup?
I have a 1997 F-150 ex-cab. I have a Kenwood CD player. What I want is to add a subwoofer to my truck. I like the way the Q-logic boxes look under the rear seat because they don't take up much space. I just want to add some bass to my truck. What are the best 8in woofers, amps, (and boxes if there are any others)? I would like to pay about $400 to $500. What are the best setups and what do yall have?
Thanks |
I've got a MTX Thunderform and MTX 4250D amp in my truck. Installation was a breeze and it sounds great. I think I paid $490 for both of them from hifisoundconnection.com.

Toss some 8s in the doors, throw in an amp, and call it a day. Eats up zero room and no need for a box. F150s have a bloody uge amount of depth in the front doors.

How exactly do you do that? pics if you have, Please |
8's in the door would sound roughly comparable to a swarm of bees in a coke can without about 75 dollars of dynamat in each door. don't expect your window to stay on track for very long either. ugh .. bad idea:mad:

i'd say puttin 8's in the door would be a bad idea, mine rattle enough with the stock speakers.i'm thinkin of goin with 2 12's mounted under the rear seat, and all new speakers.i forgot what brand they are,i think infinity, but my sister told me about some speakers with built in tweeters that would be great with some subs.if all you want is a little more bass, one or 2 8's will be enough, but if you want a little more you need speakers too,i don't know about the stock system in f-150's but my friend put 2 10's in his accord and it sounds like *****.but he's an idiot and only has 2 working speakers in his car, plus the fact that it's a honda.just remember, you get what you pay for,buy brand name and just make sure you have plenty of wattage from the amp.

ok, then what are some "good ideas"?

I bought my 10" MTX sub for $29 on ubid.com (shipping was about $20).
I also bought my 250-watt MTX subwoofer amp on ubid.com for $30 (shipping was about $15). While I have an Expy with a single box in the rear, my point is to shop around for the best rice on whatever you decide. mysimon.com can also help you find retailers who sell stuff cheap. See my signature for system details, but I can tell you that the sound is very clean and clear from my (mostly, except for the sub) Polk speakers. Buy the highest-quality components your can afford (again, shop around), install it correctly, and enjoy the sound. |
ooops... Here's my signature

Check out the JL Audio custom boxes(they make them specific for
each vehicle). I have seen some at the local shop, and they look really heavy duty. I think you can get some basic info on them at www.jlaudio.com. |
JL stealthbox
I have the JL stealthbox installed. It is a clean system with dual 8 inch subs. It secures snuggly beneath the rear seats and the sound is incredible. The quality of JL materials is awesome. The set-up will run you between $800-1200 depending on speaker quality chosen.

If i were you i would get a Infinity Perfect 10". You can get them at soundhabitat.com for $170 + shipping. They are very efficiant(spelling?) so you dont need a monster amp, though they will still take 1400 watts. any 200 to 300 watt amp would be good. Shop around though and listen to stuff.
