6X9's in an extended cab...
My co-worker, who once owned a 99 4X4 F150 XLT 5.4, told me that when he re-did his stereo in his truck, he took out the factory 6X8s and put four 6X9s in their place (actually, the sound shop, Mobile One, did it for him). He said it was almost a drop in fit. One of the techs at the shop said that that's all they do anymore for those trucks, since 6X9s are more plentiful and produce better mid-bass than 6X8s.
He chose a set of Boston Acoustics 3 ways (granted, this is a few years ago) and said they sounded great. I wanted to know if anyone else had done this, how much work it was, and was it really worth the effort? I've been comptemplating getting the MTX Thunderform Amplified enclosure with 2 8" Subs for under the back seat in my 99 xlt scab, so, the low end thump isn't the most important, but, I'll probably have just the doors for a while before I do the head unit and sub box, so, I was definitely interested in the 6X9s. Any ideas? War Stories? Inquiring minds want to know! |
