New Factory Replacement Kenwood 6x8's
New Factory Replacement Kenwood 6x8's
I have been less than happy with the factory HU & speakers. So, I decided to spend $130.00 and make a minor change to the system. I would love to have an AMP installed but I wanted to try out new speakers first. Plus, I love my SYNC and did not want to run the risk in losing any usability of the system.
I purchased two sets of Kenwood 6x8" two-way speakers, 91 db, 2-55 watts RMS from Amazon. I also purchased two Metra Ballistic 10x10" speaker kit's and a extra set of Metra speaker connector's.
The complete install took about four hours. I took a lunch break in between the front and rear speakers. I started on the drivers rear door and it took about 80 minutes. The pass rear door took all of about 20 minutes.
The front doors took up the rest of the time. It was very easy.
The sound is much improved over the factory dual cone paper speakers. The overall volume is slightly increased. But, the immediate difference can be heard. I can actually hear all of the notes in the song - no more musical notes being cut short. The bass response is much improved. I can actually turn the bass up and not have the speakers and doors vibrate. I can't wait for the speakers to warm-in.
I know this isn't a high dollar system. I also know that an AMP would improve response of the Kenwood's. But, I got the result's I was hoping for. If anyone need's a good speaker upgrade without the AMP's or dropping $500 plus dollars, this is the way to go.

I thought really hard about Infinity's. I had good luck with Kenwood's and the stock HU in my '01 XLT SCab so I thought I would give them a try.
It sounds good enough that I won't need an AMP unless I want to spend the extra $$$.

I've got infinitys in in my f150 and love them.
I guess they're too deep for the back doors in my avi, so I got four of the kenwoods.
Hoping to get them in this weekend, have had kenwoods in my mounty for years.

I purchased two pair's of speakers, two Ballistic speaker kit's and one speaker connector set. I paid just under $127.00 which included s&h charges. They are discontinued speakers so there is no warranty from Kenwood.
A 90db speaker and higher is recommended when using a low watt factory HU as well as a low watt speaker, 2 watts RMS and higher.
I tried a set of Pioneer 6x8's in the front door's and they sounded like junk. I was really surprised because they worked great in my '07.5 STX SCab.

Your welcome.
I listen mostly to Classic or Southern Rock. Bands like The Doors, Zeppelin, The Who, The Stones, AC/DC, Krokus, KISS, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Skynyrd, Blackfoot, The Eagles, etc. I use the USB, CD or MP3 and occasionally a local FM station.
