Kicker L7's?

Still toying around with what I'm going to do when I get a seat lift this summer, and getting Solo Barics had never crossed my mind until this morning.

They are a good bit more pricey than the CVX's, but the premise is a promising one...more surface area, more air movement.

The mounting depth is 6 11/16 - no problem after the LMI lift right?

I would be building the box myself I guess, and making square holes would be easier!

So currently my planned build looks like this:

2 12" Kicker Solobaric L7's or 2 Kicker 12" Kicker CVX's
Custom Box with tan carpet to match interior.
2 Kenwood KAC 9104-D Amps (Already have one - one for each sub)
2 Kenwood KAC 7204 Amps (One for each pair of door speakers.)
0 Gauge all the way to the back wall to dist block, circuit breaker on each 4 awg wire going to each amp.
Dynamat entire floor, all doors, and back wall.
6x8 Alpine Type-R's in all doors.
HO Alternator
Big 3 Upgrade

I can't wait...

Anybody got any recs for door speakers? I've heard good things about the Alpines. I'll be amped to 170W RMS @ 4 Ohms at EACH door speaker, so I can go more powerful than the 100W RMS Type-R's.

I used to have L7's I wasnt a fan of them at all. They were def strong speakers, and could handle a lot of wattage (due to the fact you are told to put them in a small enclosure) Sound quality though....they were maybe one step up from mud. Also when iand if you decide to change and try another speaker you are stuck with square holes, which mean you have to add another baffle on top to make circular holes, or redo the entire box.

Actually, now that I think about it, I have a buddy with 15's, and you sir are correct. Scratch that idea.

Glad i could help. Those solobarics claim to fame was that you could use them in a super small box (.88cft for a 12") problem was that with a box that small, the subs needed tons of power to operate at full potential. Its always a trade off. Use a small box subwoofer, but then you need 1000's of watts to get it sounding perfect. Use a large box subwoofer, you dont need the mega power to run them, but you just lost all that space in your truck. You have to find a happy median...and find a good SQ sub while your at it.

I'll just throw this out there: The square Kicker subs (L5 or L7) might be the worst sounding subwoofer I've ever heard in a vehicle.

x2 is it me or do all kickers products sound louder outside, then they do inside the vehicle?

I don't know, a good friend of mine has a ported L5 in his chevy pickup and its very loud inside and outside. But I put on some rock or country and the subwoofer just sounds SO bad. Very reminiscent of every Kicker subwoofer I've heard, but the square ones are the worst.

kicker sounds mono-tone to me

wow hate much?

I had a L5 in a ported box (in my mustang) and it was the shiz. I had it on a 1000D

I hit somewhere around 126.5 and it had a very good sound quality.

Took a 1500D and two 12' subs in a ported box to top it.

I topped out with a 1800D and two 12' subs in that car, hit 133's then I sold it as is.

No hater, but I agree that the L5/L7s get loud but sound terrible.

I thought the CVRs and old round solo's sounded pretty decent though.
