How to make my 10's hit harder???
Ok so all my friends have 2 10's just like me. I have Kicker CVT's and the have either JL Audio or JWB subs with 300 watts pushing both of them and they hit harder than my subs with a 1200 watt Nitro amp pushing them. Now I did have a shop do the install and they said that they are pushing nearly 800 watts to each sub and I just dont see how that is possible because my bass is no where near close to all my buddies. Does it have to do with the HU that I have? I have a Kenwood DD. Should I just tune my amp and turn that ******** up till I think its good enough or is there a legit way to tell how many watts I'm pushing to my subs??
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks ahead of time fellas I know yall will come through! |
hu features, box size, the way your amp is tuned, ported vs sealed, all these play a factor in how your subs will perform, i have my subs ported and they hit harder than alot of my friends systems, but when they were sealed werent even close

I highly doubt your subs are getting 800 watts a piece. If you want to check, you can do so with a multi-meter. If you know the impedance that your amp is running at you can measure the voltage from the amp and figure out how many watts it's pushing out.
If you don't have one, you should be able to find one at a Radio Shack or similar for around $20-30. ETA- after looking up that amp, I'm saying your subs are lucky to be getting 200w a piece. So, I'd recommend you look for a monoblock amp that puts out a REAL 800 watts or so. |
ya 800rms woulda blown those subs by now, they may be getting 800 watts max a piece according to the label on the amp but i bet its about 300 rms

I got 2 Kicker CompVR 12s w/ dual 4-ohm VCs behind a Punch 1200 2channel amp I had mine 'professionally' installed and decided it wasn't hitting hard enough. I looked at the amp and the gain wasn't turned up to begin with, then after looking at the wiring diagrams on both the Kicker and Punch websites I found the best wiring pattern for my speakers/amp which turned out to be running two channels (not bridged as the "professional" had wired it).
I'm running two channels out of the amp and have the subs wired in series. That runs the amp at 2ohms imp. which does cause it to overheat after continual high volume use but it definitely makes all the difference in sound. http://www.kicker.com/dvc_wiring |

this may be a dumb question but I'm not really experienced with subs and everything. but if its already sealed can I make it ported?

i got the same problem my brothers system is made up of a 10in kicker cvr with a 800watt amp (not sure of model) and a 180watt jensen 7in indash dvd but it hits harder than mine which is made up of 2 10in kicker cvt powered by a 1000watt kenwood amp and a 450 watt boss BV9972 HU idk why he did all of his installation but i had mine profecionally installed which i figure it would sound better but i guess not.

"Nitro" amp doing 800 watts continuous power to 2 individual subs? Nope, not a chance.
my suggestions: fill your box with poly-fill and put a quality amplifier on them. And to the post above ^^^ dream on if you think your head unit is doing 450 watts. Most headunits, even aftermarket wont do more than 4-10 watts continuous per channel (no matter what it says on the box, its BS to get you to buy it). |
I see a bad case of people reading the 'advertised' specs of equipment and not the real specs. Get your model and get real specs. Just because the amp says 1000w on it doesnt mean its giving 1000w, its probably a 1000w peak which is a crap spec and only giving 200w a channel. Have to watch that lower cost stuff with inflated specs.
And your friends JL equipement it probably better rated for true power and quality. Not sure if ive ever hear anyone say kicker > JL. |
Hey Pork, Kicker > JL
But yeah, check it: http://www.techronics.com/caraudio_1...html?aff=72182 That amp is pushing AT MOST 125 Watts to each sub  (I would assume those CVT's are 4 OHMs). The amp is crap dude, and the 1200W is a max number that is bogus anyway. Those subs need 300-400 RMS @ 4 OHMS a piece. |
