Sony x-plod's
Ok, I have a RED Truck and mostly, I love the looks. I would not mind cutting the holes to have these babys showing. However, does anyone know how they sound. from what I've heard, (2 ways btw) they have lousy bass
------------------ 2000 4.2 Supercab XLT What I've done: K&N filter, Magna flow custom exaust (From where cat's join, 3"in, two 2.5" out the rear), Michelin LTX M/S 265/75/16's, MTX Thunderform custom box with two 6000 series 8" subwoofers and Mtx 120 amp. Plans: Lund hood deflector, superchip, Poweraid, Xenon sport Flares, (custom ram-air idea?) |
BTW, I was referring to the speakers. However, it seems that in reading other posts, replacing the head unit first would ge the better mod. I'm pretty happy with the stock speakers and I did add the mtx thunderform subs. I'm shooting for cleaner sound not power, so a head unit would fix that?

Hello BJays Red 150, I have a Sony Xplod Head Unit and I love it, however I did not go with the Xplod speakers because there were several other speakers that sounded much better to me. I would recommend Polk or Boston speakers. If you are only going for looks the Xplod speakers would look great in a Red truck.

did you notice any difference in sound quality with the new heand and stock speakers? Rather, did you replace all at once?

I had this head unit hooked up to just the factory speakers for two days. I couldn't beleive the difference the new deck made. (It has 50Wx4 peak) It would play A LOT louder and was much more clear than the stock one. Still a little too muddy sounding to satisfy me. Then I added a set of Cerwin Vega 6 1/2" component speakers in the front doors with a small Kenwood amp(50Wx2 RMS)and was amazed again at the difference. It sounded GREAT but lacked the punch of bass I needed. After that I bought a set of MTX 4000 10" subs and Q-logic truck boxes and hooked them to a 70Wx2 RMS Coustic amp and now it is perfect! https://www.f150online.com/f150board/biggrin.gif I still have the rear speakers hooked up to deck power. I don't feel I need any more sound(right now). I have under $500 total in it, everything except the amps(I had them laying around). ------------------ 2000 F150 XL 4.2 Auto Red&Silver/Grey 98 SVT Contour #4055 Silver/Blue 88 Mustang coupe 7.59 @ 91mph 1/8th mile Mike |
BJays Red 150, I only replaced the front speakers in my SCrew. They make all the difference in the world. I would recommend replacing the front 2 if not all 4 of the ford factory speakers. The quality is much better with the high-end speakers.

Thanks for the replies guys.
I think I'm giong to go for the HU first. I have the subs already, amped and all. One thing I liked about the sony 6000 or somethingl ike that was that it has a sub pre-out. Wonderful cause now I'll actually be able to controll the subs. So, birthday coming up soon, perhaps then. thanks again BJ |
