10's vs. 12's

What do you guys think would sound better in a underseat sub install, 2 10's or 2 12's? Right now im debating on either jl audio W3s or kicker L5s, or maybe even going big and getting 10" jl audio W6s(since 12's dont fit). I want them to get loud but sound good. What do you guys think? Thanks in advance!!!

12s if you can fit them, no doubt. Their low end extension is better and with more authority.

I dont recommend Kicker subwoofers, and JL is overpriced.

I hate that question.
-Hey bro, ya my ****s bad ass.
-What ya got?
-2 12's...

lol, I use 2 12's in my bedroom.... it kinda helps having a 6 cu ft box tho

SlowRidin03 Sep 25, 2008 09:45 AM

well the box limits your selection on the JL's... the 12w3's and 10w6 are both too deep for that box... I do think you would quite satisfied with 2 10w3's.... I've had both the JL w3 10's and 12's and to me, the 12's were too much for what I wanted...

Never had any kicker products, so I cant help you there

I think what Low e Red was saying is that it's not necessarily the size of your subs that matters but it's very important how you set up your system. If you have 2 12's in a box that's too small (which would be the case under the back seat) getting pushed by an amp that's too small you're not going to have a very good sounding system. I've heard one 10 beat down on a guy that had two 12's. Since it seems that space is important to you, obviously you'll be looking at the shallow mount subs. I'm a Fosgate guy myself, so I'll be putting some P3 4-ohm 10" shallow mount subs in my screw here pretty soon.

Thanks for putting up the link by the way. That's exactly the box I've been looking for that's not ridiculously overpriced. And the sealed box volume is perfect for my subs.

Here's a link that will save you some money.

Come on Low i asked a simple question. I just want something thats gonna sound good but get loud at the same time. The 10s i have right now get louder then most systems in my town but i dont like them behind the seat (sounds ugly & it *********d them up) thats why im getting a whole new system, but i like low bass thats why im thinking about 12s.

when i had my 01 screw i had a shop build a enclosure that was for 2 12's behind the seat... that was pretty loud, or another option is run 3 tens behind the back seat.

Nah, thats just one of the things the kids come in acting like. One of my biggest pet peeves.

Ive made 8's go deeper then 15's and 15's that had the quick "tight" bass of a 10" before. Everything will depend on the box.

What 10's do you have? What size box? What amp? Xovers? etc.

low i want you to confirm this, but im pretty sure more airspace gets you a lower bass line?

my dad built mine because i told him i wanted 2 12's to sound tight and hit clean, not all garbly and distorted. he built it with 1.13 cubic feet of backspace and it handles down to like 45hz then after that it starts to get quiet.

would more airspace get down a little lower?

i know guys with huge boxes and they have absolutely no midbass. its all low end.

I can almost bet the 12's you used have a high fs..
