Exclamation New center Sub box 1st Post

Hey gang;
this is my first post after reading this forum for about 6 months now. I've started some thing a little different by designing and building a sub box for the center front console. the big deference is mine will hold 2 8" subs and keep the factory look complete with the arm rest. Give me a shout back after looking at my gallery and tell me what you all think so far!!

No. Unless you take out the divider and port the both no. It will cause major cancellations and not sound that great.

Update:
Well Saturday is over and the day was spent mostly finishing and refining. The arm rest is mounted and the exterior has new filler panels added. All the exterior seams have been filled and smoothed out in preparation for the final covering. I plan to use a gray vinyl looking material the resembles the the cup holder material. Tomorrow will see the sub chambers sealed and the box wiring done, and hopefully get some of the covering done. I've posted todays progress picks in the link. BTW how do you add picks in the post here? it will be easer than going through the whole galleries.

Ok, first I'm very interested in this project. I've considered going the typical underseat route but I'd like to still be able to flip up my seats and toss in my mountain bike. The center console route seems perfect for me as it doesn't impede with the back, and since I doubt I'll ever use that center jump seat, I won't cry when it's gone.

I'm curious about a few things though. First, why two 8's? Was it because you already had them or were there space issues that a single 10" or 12" wouldn't fit? How far forward did you go? I've considered going all the way to the dash and using some of the space for things like a vertical mounted CB Radio and such in addition to the subwoofer.

Have you got any dimensions or schematics for this box? Just trying to get some ideas and yours looks really good so far.

Images are really easy. Just put a bracket, then the letters IMG then a close bracket, then your image link, then another bracket then the characters /IMG and a close bracket.

Quote this post and you can see the code that creates my example below..

1. these 8's have more cone excursion than most 12s. 18.3mm=.75"
2. I didn't have the depth under the back seat without getting a seat lift. need at least 6" for a good sub.
3. two 8" subs = 16" of cone movement. more bang for the tight space.

I stayed even with the factory seat dimensions. In fact tomorrows post will have picks of the way I mounted it. I used the factory locations with mounting blocks. The whole idea was to keep the factory look. Less likely to get your system jacked this way.

Not yet, this project has been a day by day experiment. Making it up as it gets built. I basically used the factory seat as a template and just modified things as I went along.

Thanks I got the Pix part now, thanks to you!!

gixxer, what do you have in mind for your truck? A full depth center console?( Like from the dash to the back seat).

actually two 8's only have more cone area than one 10, less than a 12 usually tho, exursion does help a little tho

remember radius squared times pi is the area of a circle

so really 2 8's would be like 100 square inches of cone vs a sigle 12's 113.... then again every driver has different cone area specs

it really comes down to totall displacement and motor strength... but that also doesnt mean it will sound good either

I'm only planning on going as far back as the back of the front row of seats. The cargo area in the back is useful for my bicycle while I'm at work. I like to head straight to the trails after work and keeping an expensive mountain bike in the bed just doesn't cut it.

I was originally contemplating creating a whole center console similar to what the F150 with the center shifter has, but this seems like it would be an easier route to just mount that to the top. Still not sure at this point.

Yea, I've had enough stuff get jacked so the stealth and blended look is what I'm going for. For that reason I'll probably only go with down firing subs as well...just to keep them hidden.

I need to get out there and pull the jump seat and take some measurements and see what's doable for me...but dang it's cold out there right now. It's 9 without the wind chill. This might become a spring project.
