10's vs. 12's

Is there a world of difference between a pair of pioneer shallow mount 10's to a pair pioneer shallow mount of 12's...

I don't know about those speakers specifically but I can tell you there is a HUGE differnce between a 10 and a 12. I stepped up from a BM10 to a pair of BM12's and the bass is much much deeper and louder. Only draw back is that you loose some of the punch that a tighter 10 has. I'm half tempted to brain storm a way to get a pair of 8's installed beside these 12's to fill the void.

You'll hear the 10s better than the 12s, but you'll feel the 12s better than the 10s

mmmm well yes and no. nine inch nails sounds a lot better in my new setup compared to when I was running a 10. I'd say if you listen to music that don't have lots of bass, like country and classic rock, then get the smaller speakers like 8's or 10's. They perform better on quick drum kicks than a larger speaker will. Anyways :coffee:

What if you went with a 10" and a 12" - can you? same Ohm?

first off NEVER mix sub sizes.

now that that's out of the way the 12 will have a slight edge in efficiency over the 10 simple because its a bigger driver. a 12 inch driver can punch hit slam just as hard as its 10 inch equivalent the only real difference your going to have is the 10 inch drivers resonant frequency isn't as low and it has less cone area, which in other words means it can't get quite as lowd as the 12 and it'll roll off sooner. you can combat this with multiple drivers and more power, this is one reason I'm going to run 4 8's instead of 2 10's, more cone lower roll off, better power handling
