6x8 to 6.5" MDF Baffle Template and MDF Thickness For Rainbows

I'm currently in the process of replacing my factory 6x8's in my 07 Supercrew with 6.5" Component Rainbow SLC265 Kicks in the front, and 6.5" SL165 coaxials in the rear.

What thickness of MDF should I use to make the adapter plates/baffles? Are there any templates available?

What are the benefits of making a baffle out of mdf vs. using one of the plastic or plexi adapter rings?

1/2 will work if you can fit it. Heck even 3/4's if it will fit.

Some people just trace the outline of their factory speaker, then cut it out...perfect fit and the holes are right where you need them.

THe MDF is a LOT sturdier than plastic or plexi-much better midbass response and overall a better sound.

Thats how I make mine, trace the outline of their factory speaker, mark center and use a compass for the rad.. then cut it out....

I make mine from 1/4 polycab (lexan) which is much stronger and less flexible than plexi
