box ? like there's not enough of these on here.

lol. I have 2 12in, solo-baric L7s under the rear seat (fit with mods), the only thing is the box is too small as far as cubic air space I need atleast .88 i only have .60,

Has anyone ever atempted to build a box in place of the seat, and put cushion the box for someone to sit on it? I'm wanting to do this to get more airspace for these things. If you have any deminsons i could use or know of a website please let me know, thanks:)

hmm cool deal, I wonder if he still on the board?

Bartak1 Apr 3, 2006 08:53 PM

I did, there are a couple pics of the pos in my gallery. After 1 year I still dont have a cushion made for the top, or really even have it finished-but it at least holds some subs.

I have 1.9 cu.ft. per sub, doesnt sit any taller than the original seat, and IIRC, doesnt stick out any further either. Only main problem is the gap between the seat back and the top of the box. The box cant go back any further due to the little ledge at the back of the cab. You could easily make up some sort of cover type deal, or make the box to form around it more, unlike I did. The gap is a lot bigger than what the picture shows-I have spacers at the bottom of my seat to move it out to make room for my amp.

cool deal thats exactly my plans lol, you dont happen to remember the deminsoins on this do you or can you measure it for me im thinking of making a leather cushion on there. thanks for sharing those photos:)

My truck is getting worked on right now, but when I get it back (hopefully just a couple days) I will get some measurments for ya :)

Ive been looking for vinyl to match my leather for awhile, and havent had any luck. I was about ready to take the leather off my original seat and mount it with some cusion on a board to sit on top, but I think I will be making a new box once the new sub comes :)

cool I appreciate it.. are your subs facing down or to the rear of the cab?

I'm thinking of facing mine in the front of the box its still undecided though.

Bartak1 Apr 4, 2006 10:33 PM

They are facing down. You could make the box a little different pretty easy to allow the subs to face forward, all you would have to do would have the box come down from the middle hump to get a little extra height out of the box where the subs would mount. Right now, the bottom of the box pretty much sits on the driveshaft hump and runs straight across to allow room for the subs to mount and reach full excursion. There is about 2 1/2 inchs from the bottom of the box to the floor on either side of that driveshaft hump, and like I said, just letting the box conform to that hump and reaching to the floor on either side would let there be enough room for front firing 12's.

thanks for info i've been wanting to do this for 6 months now but wanted to see how it looked before I did it.

bartak,,, you get the truck back yet? JW I was gonna try to start building the box on sat, have done by this weekend maybe. Oh and the other ? did you use 1 or 2 4x8 sheets of mdf? thanks again for the help:)

Hey, I got the truck back on Friday but didnt have access to a computer the whole day. Sorry it took so long. Anyway, I just got some measurements. It is 13.5 inches tall, with 2.5 inches between the bottom part where the subs mount and the floor. So the actual box part is only 11 inches tall, with 2.5 inch legs (13.5 total) Its 14 inches from front to back, and 57 inches long. However, you will want to make it more like 55 inches. When I measured, 57 inches fit nice on the floor, but it didnt fit to well between the rear door pockets :) So mine actually rubs on both back door pockets. 55 inches long should work though.

If I remember right, it only took one peice of MDF.

If you want the sizes for all the pieces (what size to cut them) let me know and I can post those up too.

On the back bottom, you will have to cut alittle of the legs off the box so it will conform to that little hump thing in the back of the box, or else the box will stick out just far enough that your front center console wont go down (it will hit the box)

somcoupe Apr 9, 2006 03:24 PM

that will work I can figure in the side cuts from the other measurments. I cant wait to hear what these subs sound like in the right kind of air space, it's also almost airspace for SQ on them they need 2.0 cubic feet max so i'm assumming they will pick up on deeper bass now. Thanks again for the info:thumbsup:

Np prob., good luck with the build.
