MTX6000's Nasty sounding what is better?
i got the MTX Thunderform with the 2 10' 6000's in it, and it sounds ok, but when i really want to bump the system they hit so sloppy.... the bass is not very tight sounding at all, it handles the highs decent, the lows ok at low volume but when you turn it up the lows are not controlled at all.....
what subs can i get to make that sound better, and that will fit in the thunderform box, and is it easy to swap them out?

It all depends on the amp...if you already have an amp and it is 2 ohm stable, then you would want a DVC 4 ohm sub. If you have an amp that is 1 ohm stable, then you would want a DVC 2 ohm sub.
Or
If you went with a SVC sub, and your amp is 2 ohm stable you would want a 2 ohm sub...

What amp are you running? Those subs are specifically designed for that incloser and should pound at all volumes. Your amp may be your prob if it is not sounding right.
And as far as 2ohm or 4ohm, you want to go 2 if you can as that sub is better designed to handle the lower ohm load with will also be easier on your amp. But you have to have a 2ohm stable amp and a DVC speaker.
If you are looking for a new amp you should checkout the RF punch 500s or if you really want to turn heads the try their power series, the 550s-

There are a multitude of things for you to check because, like EM02supercrew said, the Thunderform box and driver combo should sound decent at most levels. I would be willing to bet that you are in need of more power, but you should supply some more info in your post:
1. What size amplifier are you driving the subs with ?
2. What is the recommended power (RMS) for the sub box ?
3. What impedance is your amp rated to drive ?
4. Did you assemble the sub box & drivers, or did it come pre-assembled ?
5. Are you wired in mono mode, or stereo mode ?
6. Does your HU have a separate set of pre-outs for the subs, or are you using a EQ ?
7. Are the subs properly phased with each other AND the rest of your system ?
Before you go to replace the subs, you need to eliminate everything else. My gut tells me you need more power and possibly some EQ work. The subs should not be reproducing any "highs" at all. If you decide to replace the subs themselves, you need to determine the enclosure's accoustical design parameters. You need to match the drivers to the enclosure as closely as possible, if you really want them to perform.
Post some more info and I'm sure we all can help you fix her up !!
hey there.
i find the best sub for the money is a alpine type R
they are terriffic and i have played them side by side to a pair of jl's.
I only run a single 1241d Alpine type R sub with the new Alpine digital class D amp and it slams out hard. SPL of level 131.24 off the dash in a sealed 1.13 cubic foot box. now grant it thats not alny thing special as far as spl levels go but for one single twelve in a tiny box that slams no matter how you look at it . and the best part is the subs are only about 159-199 depending on where you look. give it a shot you wont be dissapointed.
as for the amp that thing is incredible i have never seen so much tuneablility built in to an amp. they may call it a D class amp but it gets an A++++!!!

i have a MTX amp, it's a mono amp i payed like $400 for it, it puts out like 350w rms or something like that.
i have them mono not stereo.
it came pre assembled, but everyone i know came like that.
my head unit is a Alpine CVA1003
the speakers sound ok to a point, but when i try to really make them HIT they hit sloppy.... i need something that is more of a "tight" bass.

I'd be willing to bet a couple of cold ones that 1 of the drivers is out-of-phase.
Are there 2 wiring points for the subs, or just 1? If there is just 1 wiring point, can you open the box and verify the wiring is correct?
If there are 2 wiring points, trying reversing the polarity of just 1 of the drivers.
I know this sounds over-simplified, but when I installed my new subs I accidently wired 1 backwards. The sound is exactly like what you are describing. I went so far as to remove the new subs and replace them with the old Polk Audio's I had when I noticed that I wired 1 of the new subs backwards. I swapped that baby around and Voila - Kick-a$$ bass !!
It might be worth a shot, if you haven't got your heart set on new ones already (sounds kinda' like you do).
Good luck !!

So if someone got a Thunderform, you recommend them running it through a 1 channel mono amp or a 2 channel? Would you have to pop the subs out and rewire them? How do you rewire them to work well? Reason i ask is i just picked up a Thunderform for $250 shipped and got a pretty stout amp to drive them. Can go 600X2 @ 2 ohm or do one channel at 2 ohm as well.
