Spacers vs lift kit

This might seem like a stupid question but I'll anyway. I want to put 35's on my 2010 FX4 crewcab. Local shop is recommending a 3.5" Ready Lift lift for $1,250 after install. But a buddy says spacers will do the same job for far less. Any opinions on this?

You are kind of comparing apples to oranges when comparing a spacer kit to a full on suspension lift. From what I can tell the Ready Lift 3.5 is just a glorified spacer kit with upper control arms to correct the angles. If all you want is enough lift to run 35's on a 4x4 just get a 2.5" spacer kit, I've run an AutoSpring kit on mine for fourteen years and have never had any issues. With these trucks the wheel backspace and tire type are as important if not more so than the actual amount of lift to keep them from rubbing..

Thanks for the reply. What is an Autospring kit...is that adjustable shocks or something different? I do have Bilstein height adjustable shocks already installed from a few years back when I put Toyo RT 33's on. As far as the 35" tire type I'd like to go with though, I'm going to go back to an AT to smooth out the ride. Was thinking the always dependable (and pricey) BFG KO2's or maybe Toyo AT, although I'm not dead set on either of people have strong recommendations otherwise, but definitely gonna go AT.

Autospring is just the brand of spacer kit I used, they were inexpensive, good quality and have great customer service. I would think with the Bilstein adjustable shocks you would have enough clearance for a 35" AT tire depending on the wheel backspace and width.

I have heard conflicting things on whether I could fit 35's on a stock setup with just the Bilsteins. Regardless if they'd fit, I think 35's on a mostly stock would look kind of ridiculous. So I'd like to do at least a 3" lift/leveling. I'm thinking I'll go the spacer route like you did to save $$. How is your ride?

With a 3 inch spacer you are going to be putting extreme angles on your front end components, might be ok if all you do is mall crawl but I wouldn't.

You said you've been running a 2.5" kit for years with no problems. Are you saying 3" would make that big of a difference? I don't do any serious off-roading but I do want it ready for anything. Snow, beach, highway, whatever. Don't want to take chances.
