what starter to fit c6 trans

Hello everyone. I recently swapped a manual 5 speed mazda trans to a c6 automatic with a 14 inch tailshaft housing . I need to know which starter I need . The engine is a 300 i6 . It looks like they did pair the auto and 300 i6 engine from the factory . It also looks like they used the same starter on the 302 with an automatic . Seems to be the same starter . Am I thinking correctly . Would like to hear anyones input . Thanks

That may be tricky. 1991 and earlier use one starter, 1992 and later use a different starter. 1992 and later had E4OD, not C6.

Hello glc . well we got it straightened out about the starter . My son and I went to our local parts store and asked to look at a starter for a truck with an automatic trans (1995) . We measured the distance from the back of the flexplate to the engine block plate also we took our old starter with us . I believe we wound up with the difference being about 3/8 in. longer on the automatic starters gear drive . anyway , the starter we bought was a power select #3268N . We put it on the truck then removed the coil wire to make sure the engine did not start so we could make sure the starter worked correctly . The starter worked fine and ALSO disengaged like it should . Then we put the coil wire back in place , cranked it up and everything is working like it should (agani - knock on wood ) . Thanks for your input .
