I have 7 pin flat on my truck. Like most people do.

A long time ago, I bought a bunch of converters: 7 flat > 6 round pin, 7 flat > 5 flat pin, 7 flat > 4 flat pin, and a 7 flat > 7 round. I keep them in a small box in my truck box for storage so I can tow anything.

jpmpd - I combined the two threads you had on this topic. Please don't start multiple threads on a common topic. They lead to confusing, incomplete replies that can cost you time and money.

I would expect the 7-pin tow plug on the F-150 is a standard one, like the one on my 2014 model. This page shows it, as well as other connectors: http://www.dieselhub.com/towing/trailer-wiring.html

As stated earlier, 99% of new trucks with towing packages will have the 7 pin flat connector.

I suggest leaving whatever connector you have on the trailer alone (and the truck), and just buy a converter. That is why they exist.

Especially if it is a factory made connector.

I was at the boat launch one weekend, and saw a guy fry some fuses because he chopped off his 7 pin flat factory plug and put on some home brew 6 pin round for his party boat. He disconnected his electrical from the trailer, but the truck side that he botched up shorted out in the water when he backed in.

After edumacating the poor guy on trailer wiring converter adapters, he was bashing his head because he screwed up his new pickup trucks electrical system royally.

Not to mentioned he said he spend 3 hours doing the botch job. Where as for a trip to his local parts store, he could've picked up a $10 adapter and been done with it.

Plug and play...............

Amazon is a good place to find just about ANY trailer plug adapter you can think of...

Good luck! Mitch

The 7 pin is wired standard. When I bought my '18, I rewired the 40 y.o. horse trailer from 6 to 7. It needed it anyway. You can also find all the adapters you need at Tractor Supply Co.
