No Start On My New Edge Mustang.....:(

So yesterday I put a new battery in my ‘01 Mustang - after it was installed I started it up and let it idle in the garage for a few minutes before shutting it off. This morning I was going to take it out for a drive and when I went to start it the engine would turn over just fine but would not start!

I’m thinking maybe something got messed-up with the PATS system after the installation of the new battery? Anybody think of anything else I should look for - it seems strange that it started up fine one afternoon and by the next morning nothing....???

How about if you try another key, or try moving the steering column up and down (tilt steering).

Tried both factory keys - not sure if I moved the column.

I’m thinking about disconnecting the battery overnight and trying again.

Re-set the PATS today and got the car running. However, when I took it for a short drive around the storage facility where I keep the car there was a lot of hesitation until finally the car just died. So now I’m thinking either a plugged fuel filter (according to the original owner the filter has never been changed) or a fuel pump. I’ll throw in a new filter this week and see if that corrects the issue - if not, I’ll probably have it towed to the shop and have the pump diagnosed and replaced if needed. It’s always something with collector cars.....

how do the battery cables look? any corrosion down into the copper strands?

fuel filter would be a good start, I'd imagine its a quick change before you try and tow it somewhere

I just put in a new battery and the cables looked fine to me. I did notice that the positive post connector is not factory - someone put a lead aftermarket unit on in place of the factory steel connector. As far as I can tell, the cable itself looks to be original to the car. I asked the original owner why the connector was changed and he didn’t even know it had been done - so that is something of a mystery.....

Those bolt on replacement cable ends aren't worth their weight. Big POS. Can cause all kinds of problems and not realize it

Yes - I looked for the factory cable assembly but the only one I have been able to find is the negative - the aftermarket connector is on the positive terminal....
